I wouldn't feel to bad for em, I'm sure they'll be able to transfer to a school that has a football program with no loss of eligibility.

NY Times article that says that Miami not likely to get the death penalty or TV ban.
Storm Over Miami

David Swank, a former chairman of the N.C.A.A. Committee on Infractions, said he did not consider the death penalty or a television ban as applicable punishments in college sports today. He said that the death penalty “destroys a program” and that a television ban hurts too many other universities.

your right, for miami a tv band would do nothing, its the away games where the crowds are huge and the spotlight is on

the largest crowd at the swamp was miami in 08 a 7-6 team vs the #1 or 2 team in the country and they set a record, a few weeks later a top 5 lsu comes in to the swamp and they dont get the same crowd, miami sells tickets for love or mostly hate they come to see miami

10 Largest Crowds (Any Site)
The 2008 Miami Hurricanes played before one of the 10 largest crowds in UM football history. The game at Florida was played before 90,833 fans, the seventh-largest crowd for any UM football game.
1. at Penn State (2001) 109,313
2. at Tennessee (2002) 107,745
3. at Michigan (1988) 105,834
4. at Michigan (1984) 105,403
5. at Penn State (1992) 96,704
6. *Nebraska (2001) 93,781
7. at Florida (2008) 90,833
8. at Ohio State (1977) 86,287
9. at Florida (2002) 85,777
10 at Oklahoma (2007) 85,357

*2002 Rose Bowl — January 3, 2002

Miami appears to sell tickets in the opposing teams stadiums. Not sure what that means, but it makes an extremely strong case against harsh punishment for Miami.

Anyone who thought Miami was gonna get the death penalty is delusional. College football needs Miami.

I remember the 2002 Miami @ Tennesse game, Colleg Gameday was there. I believe that's the last time they came to Knoxville.

I doubt the death penalty will ever be used again unless there is a really extreme case. By that I mean a University continuing to break the rules over and over again while still under punishment for the previous violations. At that point is there really any other option? Miami doesn't deserve the DP, but if this stuff has been going on for a decade and is still going on, and if they prove that the whole department knew about it while it was going on...that's serious stuff in my opinion. I believe the NCAA might try to get as close to the death penalty as possible without actually killing them. :crutch:

If the penalty is given they would give them the same option SMU had, to play the away games.

....if that is the case, why has College Football been at it's most profitable the last decade when Miami wasn't even a conference power.....

If you look at all the numbers, I'm sure the NCAA has been more profitable every decade, before and/or aftervthe Canes.

would VT be as popular if they hadnt had a few great wins vs miami on thursday night games???

VT owes their popularity to eight straight 10+ win seasons. Not to Miami. Consider if VT had beaten Miami three years in a row and had a 6 win season each of those years. Nobody would care about VT or respect them. Miami has played a part in VT gaining respect over the years, but no more than Boston College or North Carolina has when you consider how mediocre Miami has been for so long. VT is expected to beat Miami these days.
