another year of direct tv

Sunday Ticket airs on DirecTV, but rights are up for auction as the NFL's DirecTV deal is expiring after the 2022 season. DirecTV paid around $1.5 billion for the games, but whoever wins the rights for the 2023 season will likely pay around $2.5 billion.

Should Apple win the bid for Sunday Ticket, out-of-market fans will be able to watch non-prime time games from all 32 NFL teams on Apple TV+. Sunday Ticket would join Friday Night Baseball, which Apple airs each Friday as part of a deal with Major League Baseball.
Yep, the Ticket is the only reason I still have DirecTV--I'm a Niner fan in Texas. The last two times I've tried to change my plan or squeeze them for free upgrades and discounts, they wanted me to reup for 2 more years, which would include the year after they lose the Ticket. Nope.

If Apple gets the Ticket, I'll dump DTV and sign up for Apple (and save money doing it even if Apple raises its prices).

As long as I can get my local channels and the Ticket, all you really need is a few streaming services and you're still coming out cheaper than the old cable/sat setup.

I know a college kid and he gave me his info to sign up for the college discount streaming wise, Only cost me $80. Hopefully the same thing happens this year.

Slightly off-topic but for those that don't know, (especially fans of NFC teams), FOX tv is free on-line to everyone for 1 hour without signing in. FOX checks both device id and IP address so after 1 hour you will need either a 2nd IP address or a 2nd device. After 1 hour away from your original id/IP combo you can re-use that combo. Personally I sign out of my paid VPN after 1 hour and use a free VPN for the 2nd hour of games. I switch back for the 3rd hour.

https://www.fox.com/live/channel/WNYW/?id=3e840ae9e119084c2b71acaf68d06049

It's safer than streaming sites, better quality, and it's 'almost live' compared to being up to 90 seconds behind. Alternatively I can post streaming site and or VPN info if needed.

CBS, NBC, and ESPN require US sign-in info that I don't have from Europe.

Is that just your local area or out of area too? In other words I could go to Fox Dallas and watch the game that way for an hour? I never heard of that before but great to know if that is indeed the case

The FOX broadcast you will get will depend entirely on what FOX reads as your IP location. If your VPN registers as Dallas you will get the Dallas feed. If it registers as New York you will get the New York feed.

I'm on the South Coast of Britain so my local area isn't important.

If you need a 1st or 2nd VPN service for the US I strongly recommend ProtonVPN which is free. The easiest way to get it is to sign-up for a free ProtonMail email account first. You wouldn't ever need to use their email service and it can be applied for with a 'fake' Yopmail email address from a 'fake' VPN IP address. ProtonVPN have multiple free US locations. Los Angeles is normally free #2 and New York is free #6. There is normally a free # for Dallas but it can be on any of the other free #s, so finding it wouldn't always be instantaneous. It's no-log, secure, and runs on the faster WireGuard protocol.

Yeah. I'm fucked there too.

I like watching games without Syndication. Top 2 TV Providers show Sunday Ticket so i buy it and look for the most interesting game without Syndication, preferably CBS and Seahawks game, which is on at least 2 levels but usually more.

I don't subscribe to Apple because I don't bow down to their commands. It is interesting to see how Canadian Providers adapt

God I hope it leaves DTV, for my home I need it to be streamed. The Doc I bought my house from removed every inch of co-ax cable from the house and left me with streaming options only, and I am not opening 3 floors of walls to run new cable. We use Apple TV and every streaming service you can think of.

Yes.

Los Angeles IP in Dallas - you get Los Angeles FOX.
New York IP in Chicago - you get New York FOX.
Seattle IP in Kansas City - you get Seattle FOX.

You get different IP addresses from VPN suppliers.

Basically you install a VPN app/add-on on your desktop/laptop/phone and instead of your device sending out your requests/instructions in all directions those requests/instructions go directly to the VPN supplier. The VPN supplier then re-transmits them from their devices with the new IP address. The results come back to them and they re-transmit it back to you. I'd advise people to do some light research before they use/buy VPNs. Generally avoid using them for financial transactions.

Obviously using a VPN requires a significant amount of trust that the VPN IP supplier isn't logging your activity and information. Some free suppliers openly log your activity. Some paid services, (hidemyass), supposedly didn't log you...until US authorities subpoenaed their logs. Most VPN services are paid services. Some are good quality, some are not. The 2 VPNs with the best all-round services and reputations are ExpressVPN and NordVPN. Other VPNs may be better value for money or provide a better, faster, more secure, different location, different protocol, functionality, or anti-government shutdown service depending on what people need. Surfshark has blazing download speed if you get over 100Mbps from your service provider. CyberGhost, PIA, and Zenmate are owned by the same company, (Kape Technologies), and use the same basic system. This company has had some issues and it also recently bought ExpressVPN. I had the 30-day trial period of CyberGhost in 2021. It was ok but there were location and security issues. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them. It's ok for just streaming and the current PIA offer of 39 months for $79 is value for money. I bought VyprVPN when it was on a cheap-as-chips offer at 36 months for $60. It has limited locations but good security.

For those that need a US IP and a general all-around VPN I recommend ProtonVPN's free service. It's easy to use, doesn't log you, has decent speed, multiple US locations, no download limits, and is constantly advancing the most modern protocols and functions. The downside to the free version is there are only 3 countries - the US, the Netherlands, and Japan. If you need an IP for somewhere else it's useless, and the paid version is prohibitively expensive. (I'm trying not to shill).

PrivadoVPN is a decent rest-of-the-World free VPN alternative. There are only 4 US locations, (doesn't include Dallas), and there is a 30-day 10GB limit which will disappear in a hurry if you use it for streaming. (Warning, Privado will spam you with email reminders to upgrade your service).

The best VPN deals are normally in late November/December, (for those who can wait).

Thanks, I can have a VPN through Bitdefender, I'll need to research how to grab a Dallas IP, or ask my son. I'm fairly sure his financial risk job gives him knowledge on this stuff. Plus he's in the age group that knows all about puters and stuff.

Still looking like Apple the favorite. I wonder what a huge deal like this does to the salary cap

From TV contracts alone, the NFL will generate at least $100 billion in revenue over the next decade. It’s a figure that doesn’t even account for the pending sale of NFL Sunday Ticket and future growth for the NFL International Series.

League officials also anticipate generating billions of dollars in the coming years thanks to the booming popularity of sports betting. With more states legalizing wagering through sportsbooks, partnerships with companies like BetMGM, DraftKings and FOX Bet will generate even more revenue for the NFL.

What do you use for streaming while on your VPN? Things like youtubetv and hulu know you are using a vpn and block you. I know there are some work-arounds but I found a lot of the process to be frustrating and had to change some things from week to week.

I watch very little in the way of tv. I've never watched youtubetv or hulu so I can't offer any advice specific to them. Some VPNs are better at getting around blocks than others. When I have wanted to watch a tv series i've always found I could get it on MoviesJoy, Soap2Day or 1 of the other sites listed on:
