Hes Back

Yankees signed 1B Greg Bird to a minor league contract.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that he'll earn $1 million this season, if he's added to the Yankees' major-league roster. Bird is back where it all began after failing to make the Blue Jays' season-opening roster this spring. The 29-year-old slugger, who appeared in 186 games for New York from 2015 to 2019, will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the start of the regular season and could be a potential option sometime later this year.

Dodgers signed RHP Dellin Betances to a minor league contract.

Well, this is interesting. Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that Betances will earn $2.5 million this season, if added to the Dodgers' major-league roster. The towering 34-year-old righty was limited to just one appearance last year with the Mets and has thrown just 13 1/3 innings in the majors since 2019 due to injuries. He's a fascinating reclamation project for Los Angeles, and could find himself in their bullpen at some point this season, if he can stay healthy.

They knew he was hurt when they traded for him. He can't hit, but an allegedly plus defender.

Similar the other guy they just picked up from Texas.

Methinks we're gonna get a lot of Higgy.

bloom working his magic:suds:

Michael Wacha was lit up for six runs in four innings Tuesday in the Red Sox's 10-6 win over the Twins.

Gio Urshela, Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa all homered off him. Wacha wasn't any good last year. Or the year before that. Or even the year before that. He also has a 6.60 ERA this spring. Still, the Red Sox made the call to hand him a $7 million contract and a rotation spot. We'll see how it works out.

Cashman always could develop those bullpen arms!

Cora said he has been impressed with several minor league prospects, specifically pointing to Franklin German(whom the Red Sox acquired with Adam Ottavino from the Yankees before the 2021 season).

German, who’s entering his age 24 season, was not invited to big league camp. But Cora has watched the 6-foot-2 righty on the backfields and was impressed with his fastball velocity. Cora said German has reached 98-99 mph.
