Voit traded to the Padres but unless im missing something, does not look like we got anyone who can help us this season

Lange, 20, allowed 17 runs in 22 Single-A innings around knee trouble last season. San Diego selected him with the No. 34 pick in the 2020 draft and paid him a $2 million bonus. Baseball America ranked Lange as the No. 16 prospect in the Padres system prior to the trade, calling him "a lottery ticket with a wide range of potential outcomes."

Chamberlain and Betances were drafted as starters, but yeah, they mostly seem to end up in the pen eventually.

He seems to like to get his position players in IFA, but outside of Robbie Cano, that hasn't exactly gone terrifically either.
I think in terms of Cashman drafting good position players it was only Brett Gardner for about 15 years. Then came Aaron Judge. Nice way to break up the streak. But you are right...Cano and Melky were International guys. There must have been a zillion bad draft picks mixed in there.

Strange. I figured they could get some decent middle reliever for him. A young pitching prospect could work out over time, though. Given his relatively high salary and inability to stay on the field, Voit was essentially worthless.

They took a lot of HS infielders and outfielders just based on projected athleticism. Slade Heathcott. Cito Culver, etc.,

But even the best HS programs are so far from MLB caliber baseball, it's like finding a needle in a haystack drafting like that. 99% wash out before they even sniff the bigs.

When he was healthy and before they acquired Rizzo.

But SD needs a DH now, so he'll be playing everyday.
That was my point: he’s never healthy.

In fact, if he had been able to stay healthy, the Yankees wouldn’t have needed to acquire Rizzo in the first place.

He was healthy enough in 2020 to lead all of MLB in HR.

Which is why I'm not thrilled with the return. Then I remember we got him for Chasen Shreve. LOL

60 game seasons were made for Luke Voit!

we're going to act like he wasn't good in 2019?

A 126 wRC+ is good even by 1B standards, but he's not much of a defender. I think he's a pretty good player... when he's on the field. Given his injury history, it wouldn't be wise to play to play him anywhere else than DH.

FWIW, he did underperform his Statcast metrics (particularly xwOBA and xSLG) and his EV was actually higher than it was in 2019/2020. Even his batted ball metrics were in line with 2020 (LD%, GB%, FB%, IFFB%). His HR/FB rate has been all over the place. His .313 BABIP wasn't too far off from his career average (.321). The 34.9% and 40.5% HR/FB rates don't look sustainable over a full season.

2018: 40.5%
2019: 21%
2020: 34.9%
2021: 20.0%

25% of a season is a lot to have schedule off
