Best pitcher you ever saw?

De Grom is flying up that list, his quiet personality doesn’t help his case, but that guy hasn’t pitched a bad game in like 3 years

but the best single season I’ve seen has to be Doc Gooden

I hate to ruin the ending for you, but he ends up hating the Yankees and refusing to show up for Old Timers Day. Then, to add insult to injury, he saddles them with one of the worst contracts in MLB history.

Became a real dick, but was very cool during the Stans commercial so that’s the most important thing

Nice call on Gooden. Boy, did they beat the shit out of that young arm!

Can’t compare DeGrom IMO because he’s pitching in the “dead bat” era when nobody can hit anyway.

Hard to quantify cause steroid era pitchers were all on steroids themselves

Gooden in 1985 at age 20(!). 35 starts, 276.2IP(!!), 16 Complete games. You’d think you were looking at stats from Christy Mathewson’s era, but it was the 80’s. Unbelievable.

Crazy, never see those era numbers again, teams just wouldn’t allow it

His fastball topped out at 103 mph. That was unheard of at that time. Like a runner doing an under 4 minute mile in the 1920s.

Where did you see he threw 103? I saw just about every game he pitched and don’t ever remember him throwing that hard.....maybe 100

meh bob gibson stands alone and yes im old enough to have seen him kill the 67 sox but 68 was his best season

  1. Key Stats: 22-9, 1.12 ERA, 304 IP, 368Ks, 13 shutouts, Cy Young, MVP
When you look up “dominance” in the dictionary, Bob Gibson’s 1968 baseball card should be plastered right there in the middle of your Webster’s. St. Louis’ offense had to be absolutely anemic for Gibson to have lost nine games. And it was. The Cardinals had one player batting over .300 (Curt Flood at .301), and their leading home run hitter was Orlando Cepeda with 16.
Still, Gibson dragged his team to Game 7 of the World Series. In a matchup of MVPs, Gibson out-pitched 30-game winner Denny McClain with a complete game shutout in Game 1, had a one-run complete game, and finally lost Game 7, proving that he was indeed human.
