Because he's content with having a very average rotation?

If Lester were traded to Baltimore, would he be their best starter since Mussina? I can't think of anyone else since Moose that was better.

Yes. Their best pitchers over that span are probably Erik Bedard and Jeremy Guthrie. Orioles have had some pretty bad pitching staffs since Mussina left.

Just saw Moyer was in his 30's when he pitched for the O's. It's easy to forget how old he is.

Mussina was definitely the last great pitcher they had. Baltimore with Lester in the rotation becomes my AL fave. The Jays with Lester still have a bullpen capable of destroying all that is good, as well as at least 2 infield spots that require platooning. Far more work that has to be done there than in Bmore.

Jeffro will be happy.

Orioles are now the frontrunner for Jon Lester... reportedly sending another pitcher to Boston. (Miguel Gonzalez part of deal?)

The Cubs just traded for a left hander from the Red Sox.

And by left hander, I meant Felix Doubront. You didn't think I meant Jon Lester, did you? Anyway, he is young and has put up some decent strikeout rates, so I don't blame the Cubs for taking a flier. It worked out in the case of Jake Arrieta. Granted, Douby's struggled a lot with the walks and pitch counts, and his velocity is a couple miles down form two years ago (92 to 89). Sox get a PTBNL.

brett fucking gardner

Gardner without the power was already a damn good player to begin with. I thought he was capable of developing a little more power, but I never thought he'd hit 14 by the end of July.

Gardner extension seems like a big bargain. Especially considering he's arguably better than Ellsbury. A bit surprised defensive metrics are down on Ellsbury this year. I guess some of it has to do with Gardner playing CF? Brett is a great defender.

Looks like that's not the case anymore. Found this on MLB Trade Rumors:

6:58pm: The Orioles did have discussions earlier on Lester, but talks have fizzled and there no longer appears to be a match, reports Andy Martino of the New York Daily News.

For what it’s worth, Duquette did tell reporters that he had at least some interest in adding a frontline starter, which is something of a different tone than the club had set in recent days, as Connolly reports. “We’d be interested in adding pitchers that could help us at the top of our rotation,” said Duquette. “Who wouldn’t be?” But Duquette did not waver from his prior statements that Baltimore is quite hesitant to part with young arms: “I think with our young pitchers we would be conservative, and we would try and give them a prolonged trial in the big leagues before we would trade them.”
