Trading the 2nd best player is not usually the starting point
Defense matters, if you can get a 2 way player who can score just as much back you do that

I'm hardly alone noting the defensive problem with KAT and Brunson on the floor together, don't they have a 150 defensive rating together?

Trust me if their defense was so bad as you are acting like it is they wouldn’t still be playing basketball

You don’t blowup a team for a 37 year old when this group got the franchise plays they haven’t been this century. Also this thread after KAT is the only reason they didn’t wake up down 3-0 is poor timing to say the least. You can actually make a case that if thibs left KAT in the game or brought him back earlier in game 2, they win that game and is up in this series

Biggest issue with KAT, imo, is his inconsistency. Based on that, KD probably increases the Knicks title chances, but also shortens the window to a couple of years. On the other hand, if KAT continues to be inconsistent, they don't have much of a window.

That's what makes him so frustrating. He has stretches where he played like he did last night...but then he has too many stretches where he is M.I.A.

Style make fights. Haliburton is probably the best old school pg in the game today and Turner is a stretch 5. Not all other 28 teams in nba got the same setup

Right but someone posted a great tweet about how when they are on the floor together the Knicks defensive rating is 150 (which is awful). It's a problem.

Not a big KAT fan but he’s been fairly consistent this year at least and now for the last 2 postseason. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not going to complain about 26/11 ( his numbers this series) or 21/11 ( his playoffs numbers))

He’s just the easy scape goat to me. How about hiding Brunson on Nesmith so you don’t have him and Kat in the screen action from Indy?

Yea it was just referring to the 2 games of this series
Fair enough. I still think they will have trouble winning a title with their 2 best players being terrible at defense. Has a title team ever been that way? (Answer: no)

Yea they’re in the conference finals with all of their season goals right in front of them. There’s 26 other teams that would love to be where they are at right now

Right now they are.

But it seems a bit flukey to me.

So let’s see what happens and reevaluate in a couple weeks.

Pretty hard to really hide a defender today

There are ways to force switches and put that player in screening actions forcing him to be involved and engage with higher priority options.

Hard to be flukey in a sport that plays best of 7

Ok…

But that is exactly what we all saw with the Celtics.

They play that series with both rosters healthy Celtics win the series 9/10 IMO.

First you had the comebacks, then the Tatum injury.

The Knicks scrapped hard and they deserve it, but there was quite a bit of crazy circumstance that went in to that series win.

Celtics were going to lose game 4 no matter what. Tatum got hurt nearly down double digits with about 3 minutes left in game 4. They’re not winning that game even with Tatum healthy.

Is it possible Celtics comeback from 3-1 with Tatum? Yes but is it likely? Hell no

Knicks would have been favorites to win that series after game 4 with a healthy Tatum. No need to discredit them for every thing

Also comebacks is a part of sports. They have now done it 3x in their last 5 wins. That is no longer flukey to me.

That is 1 game.

Games 1 and 2 were flukey IMO.

Pacers comeback was a slow one over 2 full quarters.

Celtics were almost all 4th quarter.

And there is a reason everyone here was dumping on the C’s game management after those losses. They gave the games away as much as the Knicks took them.

Not true at all. Pacers comeback came in 3 minutes while the the Knicks walked down the Celtics from the 3rd quarter in both games

And yet, OP is factual. Defense matters in the playoffs.
Durant is gonna be 37.....he doesnt play any defense anymore and who knows when a big drop off starts come. Towns is 29.....

i mean...MAYBE for 1 year- MAYBE its a slight upgrade?

Just doesnt make sense to me.

now- due to the Cavs having 2 small guards--- could you MAYBE convince me into a Durant for Garland deal? I would be very skeptical.....but I can see the sense in it for balancing out the lineup. I could see the Suns going for a Booker/Garland back court too. If you were just going short term- the next 2 years i guess.

Pacers comeback started the last 30 seconds of the first half when they cut the lead from 18 to 13.

The first few minutes of the 3rd they traded buckets, before Miles McBride scored 5 straight points to get the lead to 8 at the end of the 3rd.

Then the 4th the Knicks had their final run.

But it was not 3 minutes. LOL.
