Yanks get their man:suds:

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that the Yankees have acquired Brandon McCarthy from the Diamondbacks in exchange for Vidal Nuno.

Thanks for posting this but I wouldn't say they got their man. Nuno has a better WHIP and ERA than McCarthy. This seems like an even trade comparing both pitchers stats. The Yankees needed to upgrade and they got someone very similar to Nuno. :noidea:

Good move by the Yankees. He was weighing down the offense, time to retire. This move added an arm to the bullpen, so it's a win win.

So the Rays won 3 of 4 in Baltimore, swept the yanks in the bronx, and won 3 of 4 in Detroit

Catching three teams is very hard to do from as far back as they are (were). Being so hot lately makes you wonder if they buy or sell?

Well they're not that far back so I don't think they will be selling.

Only 6.5 out of 2nd place

No urgency to sell Price; could always wait until the offseason or next deadline. Zobrist won't get them much.

I'm stunned at how hot the Rays are right now.

What a difference a day makes.... Not that anyone really looks too closely at BA, but after their 4-30 night, they are sitting at .259 in 13th place overall... Their team OPS in July is .744 - good for 11th....

If you want to see hot, check out LA... Across the board....

Enormous confidence boost for Shane Greene picking up his first major league W, and throwing a perfect game into the 5th no less. But what I'm really happy about is the Yankees drafted him in '09. I want to see more home grown talent instead of trading for old washed up players.

Anyone notice Nick Swisher's AVG this season? .198

The A's, Angels, and even the M's are playing some really good ball this season. It wouldn't shock me our WS winner this season comes from that division.

+1

First to team to 85 wins

I'd say 90 wins will seal the deal.

What is up with Tanaka lately? Need a little insight. Would prefer is OBX or Baller answered. CSD has homer glasses.

Is it run support? Tipping pitches? Just a rough stretch. What are you guys seeing?

Clearly they should have traded him instead of Nuno.

His last two starts are non-quality, no big deal. Run support wasn't a problem last week in Minnesota as the Yanks still won the game and Tanaka notched another W. I'd chalk it up to a rough stretch and I'm sure the All Star break will help him tremendously.

A little bit of wear and tear and little bit of scouting. The five man rotation and the bigger baseball in MLB tends to wear down Japanese pitchers.... And the scouting reports on him are more complete. Teams are figuring him out....

He'll still end up with an ERA under 4.00 and 200+ strikeouts...

Good answer.

To add to it, Japanese pitchers have a set day of the week that they pitch. Which leads to more routine and only pitching every seventh day instead of fifth.
