To no one's surprise, Joe Ryan was placed on the 15-day IL today with a groin strain. Something has obviously been wrong for a month or so, as his performance has been noticeably below standard for his last 4 starts.
Dallas Keuchel was recalled to take his place in the rotation. Lets see what he has left.

The concerning thing is he supposedly hid it since the Braves start

I understand the reason he hid it. He didn't want to be sent back to AAA.

huh?? Ryan would be more likely to be sent back to AAA by hiding the injury and pitching poorly

He wouldnt be sent to AAA for reporting it wtf

Sonny Gray gets his first win since April 30th.

Twins now up 2.5 and 56-54. So sad.

I guess the silver lining is we are 4 for 4 in reducing our magic number each day this week. That counts for something right?

Where does Dylan Floro fit in the Twins' bullpen? With Duran struggling a bit recently, it might be nice to give him a few days off and let Jax handle the 9th.

Sometimes young players are afraid that they'll be sent back down if they complain about being hurt.

Buxton back to the IL. The DH only plan.......not working.

Bigger news. Naylor out 3-6 weeks with an oblique. That fucker likely will be a 6 week minimum injury those things are brutal. 6 was Royce timeline and hes gonna take the full 6 at least.

Losing Naylor for any extended period of time is not good for the Guardians. He has been a very important part of their offense this season.

One of the only two important parts of that offense.

This is gonna be an absolute adventure of a final 51 games. Squeeked out another.

Lead stays at 2.5 while the Guardians got their White Sox gimme.

I have a hunch that Duran is going to get some time off as the closer. His innings are seldom clean. They are frequently more interesting than they need to be.
This said, I think he'll be an effective closer for a long time, if he can stay healthy.

as far as #1 overall picks go- he leaves a LOT to be desired. But I guess we shall see.

want to make a bet?

Ill bet from this day till the end of the season Gimenez has a better*****WAR**** than Julien.
When I made this post on July 20th Julien was at .318/.399./.565

about 2 weeks later: .286/.371/.510

I mean even with Gimenez homer today hes basically Christian Vazquez at the plate.

Oh Polanco went yard today too though, you know the guy the was debated with Gimenez.

Glad to have a vet for the stretch run.

So glad Rocchio is up. I hope that let him play through his adjustments and gets the majority of SS at bats. One of my favorite Guardians prospects in a long time. Great nickname too. The Professor.

yah there fucked. I mean its obvious they threw up the white flag--- Civale, Bell, Rosario all gone....now Naylor on the DL.....its about the future right now.

Joey Cantillo is actually getting interesting as a prospect--- this guy was a soft thrower with a great changeup when they got him in the Clevinger trade- seen as a back end starter....fastball was like 89-90---

today he topped out at 98 in Triple A

I dont know how the Guardians do it. I really dont. Cantillo has gone from a C+ prospect- back end starter/long man....to being "a guy".

Clevinger trade--- Hedges, Arias, Naylor, Quintrell, Owen Miller, Cantillo......now- some of those guys are better than others but everyone one is a likely major leaguer. Really crazy.

Which makes it so surprisingthat the Guardians made a 1-1 deal for Civale---- it is definitely NOT their style.

Bieber resumed throwing today- he is not eligible to come off the DL until September 10th- but its a good sign his injury will not require surgery and he might still pitch this year.

I read today that the Guardians have the toughest schedule in baseball winning % wise the rest of the way- so I kind of doubt they are still in it when he gets back----- but if somehow the Twins falter- come September Bieber and McKenzie both might be back. It's a long way away though- with a tough schedule, no Naylor, and a lot of young guys.
