MFing Dolan. That cheap SOB. I mean Civale was under control for awhile I thought and Civale has been the best starter.

CLE did get the Rays #1 prospect though

ehh.....depends on the publication. Definitely got their best hitting prospect- that is for sure- and one of the top pure hitting prospects in the minors. He was #37 MLB.com's re-rank from about a month ago- and his ranking is based on his bat solely.

at least one, if not more of these things have to be true

1. They are optimistic that at least 1 or 2 of their injured starters will be back.

2. Their are more deals to come.

More than likely 1.

McKenzie and Bieber both on the 60 day IL. Won't expect them anytime soon but Quantrill could be back soon and hopefully healthy.

Other options for 5th starter are: Cantillo (not likely-back to AA and not ready yet), Cody Morris (rough showing so far in the Majors), Vallimont (looks like he started in minors some but more recently a reliever) or Hunter Gaddis (struggled in the majors this year and last year).

I get why they would deal Civale but this prospect doesn't exactly project good power. He has less than average power for a 1st baseman. He does have a high walk rate and low SO rate but CLE needs power.

while you are right about the power- power is also something that often comes later.

it is much more important to have the hitting skills- those are pretty innate. Often times power comes later. I think the approach is the right approach- get guys that have the innate hit skill and develop power from it

also- even if he is just a 20-25 homer guy- that is fine- Naylor only has 15 homers, has a good OPS, driven in a ton of runs. Ill take that over a 30 home run hitter that is hitting .230

wasnt his fault--- actually had a pretty decent debut.....maybe the shame got to him. lol.

It was a matter of time he had 5.08 FIP and 7.67 xFIP tonight.

You gotta just pray that all the contact finds gloves when he pitches.

Twins snap their 5 game losing streak

Guardians get no hit by the Astros

For today at least, things are ok. We still suck ass though.

Too bad the front office thinks they're doing just fine.

Its because of nights like tonight that are why we did nothing.

Guardians, Tigers, White Sox scored a combined 1 run.

Guardians are de-moralized from the white flag deals.

One deal they dealt their current best SP for a minor leaguer (even if generally speaking the reception of the deal has been positive for the long-term and the "right" thing to do".

the other deal they dealt one of their few power bats who had been playing better lately for a lotto ticket prospect and to save 10M dollars.

The Twins have no excuse.

Khalil Watson is a little interesting....high end talent drafted #16 overall just a couple drafts ago- but obviously he is 3-4 years away.

Interesting blurb on Watson.... @Shanemansj13 @dtgold88

In addition to the financial relief, the Guardians are buying low on a one-time top prospect. Watson, a 20-year-old infielder, was the 16th overall pick in the 2021 draft. The high school product was widely regarded as a top five to ten player in the class on talent, only dropping to the middle of the first round because of a lofty bonus demand.

His first two full seasons in pro ball haven’t gone as anticipated. Watson struck out in nearly 36% of his plate appearances in Low-A a year ago, hitting .231/.296/.395 over 83 games. He also missed some time last season on a team-imposed disciplinary absence after a confrontation with an umpire, as Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs wrote in his write-up of Miami’s farm system.

Watson still ranked in the upper third of the Marlins’ top 30 prospects at both FanGraphs and Baseball America, though he’s no longer seen as a top 100 talent around the league. He’s hitting .206/.337/.362 over 243 trips to the plate in High-A this year. He’s connected on seven homers, walked at an elite 14.4% clip and stolen 14 bases. Yet he’s still striking out an alarming rate — 28% of the time. There’s clearly plenty of variability in Watson’s profile, but he has huge bat speed and the chance to stick at a middle infield position. It’s an upside play for Cleveland at a much lower cost than would’ve been required to pry him away 12 to 18 months ago.

Upside but to this point, he just seems like a bust. He is very young still but it doesn’t seem like he is improving much. Would have to be a drastic turnaround

Cleveland literally gave up this season. If they win the division…shame on the Twinkies

The Twins should have been doing the same thing. They've had both hands clasped firmly around their neck for over a week now and the Guards couldn't capitalize before they sold. Nobody in this division is going anywhere. C-Town has it right, pull up stakes and wait until next season.
