haaaa..........yep, that we traded up from round 2.

its been a crazy but happy season so far, they've not only met expectations, not only pased expectations, but BLOWING AWAY our expectations.

That too, but saying we were picking low would imply to me that we'd have had a bad record (4-12 to 6-10), be picking 7-10, trade that pick to the top four teams for their first rounder and change (though I don't know why a great team would trade for a high pick). While I thought we'd improve, I didn't think it would necessarily be record-wise, it certainly seemed like that scenario was more likely than what our possibilities are today. Having said that, we'd need to win a playoff game or two to be picking lower than 28th. (Or is it strictly regular season record?)

Here's my top 5 draft/FA needs for next year:
1. QB*
2. CB
3. FS
4. G/C
5. WR

This is getting a lot harder than it had been in the past. The depth of the team gives us a lot of flexibility. I really want to put NT on that list, but think we have a better chance filling QB than NT, and we don't have a very good chance of getting a QB. Things will change a lot depending on what happens w/ the FA's. Realistically I think we can attack CB, WR, FS and C next year.

*If an ideal QB or NT is available through draft or FA, we should put everything else aside and make it happen.

Getting an elite NT in that front 7 would make it absolutely miserable for other teams.

If Chris Polk is still on the board that could make me stop and think. He looks slept on right now.

There's got to be a CB/WR sitting there in the 20's who can help us out.

Would you guys be pissed if we took a G there?

non-playoff teams pick first, by reverse order of the regular season record. play-off teams pick afterward so although not likely, the best slot we could get is 21st.

not if i read he's a likely Pro Bowl guard? ie i was satisfied he's our BPA?

OG's aren't THAT unusual for teams picking LATE round 1?

Yeah, Storm, I would not be happy with that at all. I know RG is still a ?, but, IMO, it isn't a first round ?.

yeah ok, the chances of "a QB Harbaugh really likes", is small in the 20's. but lets keep that option open?

there were what...four (Newton, Locker, Ponder, and Gabbert?) 1st round QB's taken last year and one more (Dalton) before CK. so not a lot of teams looking for another QB? then there's THREE projected 1st rounders next draft, so will three teams before 21st take QB?

If that happens, where one of the top QB prospects falls in the draft the way Rodgers fell, I'd say draft a QB. But, I guess for every Marino or Rodgers who falls that far, the chances are just as good that you'll get a Quinn or Tebow, or even worse, a Druckenmiller.

I'd take the chance though, QB is still a need until someone emerges as, at the very least, a Pro-Bowl caliber QB. It isn't a bad thing to be loaded at the QB position. I'm just not sure that Harbaugh and Baalke will go QB that early.

There is absolutely no reason for us to take another first round shot at a Guard. I'm content with Snyder, Rachal, or Kilgore filling that role. One of them should be able to do just fine.

It could be a real possibility as guards start coming into play. I'd personally be borderline pissed off no matter who it was too.

Nothing too new to add. Gotta say, though, given where we're likely to pick, I'm eyeing FS in the first or second round. An impact FS would make this D downright nasty.

I still think QB is the #1 priority. I still think CB is the #2 priority. After that I would look at safeties, WRs, and an interior OL (C or RG). In list form:

QB
CB
S
WR
OG/C

the way the draft is setting up, C or RT might be the best options. specifically konz, brewster and mike adams.

things we should be looking for; franchise QB, LT, WR, CB. depth on the defensive line along with a stud NT. a OLB to develop but brooks and smith are looking good right now. safety is a huge need. we basically have a bunch of back ups filling in.

I understand that Gs or Cs shouldn't be viewed as first rd but on our current projection we're looking at what 28-32 selection overall in the first? We went LG REAL early BUT it's paying dividends so throw out the norm.

The chances of a higher rated C or G(RG) being there are higher than say a higher rated CB/WR(really depends)/QB(outside of Luck & Jones, no me quiero)/S

Not saying they're the #1 priorities but we may be looking at it in which it does fill a need, a C that would unseat Goodwin in the near future(bolster the young OL) or a RG that has the size to compliment the running game even more(Synder is playing well, so NO knock on him).

I view S, CB, WR, RG, C as "top" needs/looks into the draft.... I left out QB because as I'm saying now, outside of Luck or Jones, not really jumping for.

OK here's a fun one.... say if we pull an ATL type deal like last year's draft(moving all the way up to the #6), say we do that, same slot selection, who would you draft? (after moving all those picks n such)

(don't say i wouldn't or trade more for luck... blah blah... use the scenario provided, whom would you chose?)

Blackmon has my vote as well. Like him way more than Julio Jones to boot.
