And in case anyone was wondering where we currently stand with draft picks in '25:

-First-round pick
-Second-round pick
-Second-round pick (via CAR)
-Third-round pick
-Fifth-round pick
-Sixth-round pick (conditional via PIT)
-Seventh-round pick (via CLE)

Another year of having to root against the Panthers. Depending on how they fare this season, that could be a valuable 2nd round pick. And strangely enough, a year where we should be rooting for Fields to take over as QB1 for Pittsburgh. That could possibly turn into a 4th rounder.

Hardly a shocker:

Focusing on the trenches seems to be logical choice for Poles in his advanced scouting. Of course with him, we can't rule out almost any position, but I'm with those who feel the trenches are where he's concentrating. Interior OL and the Edge might be his top two positions to follow, but we have three picks in our first two rounds, and it might not be a bad idea to check out the Interior DL spot as well. After all, the only true 1 tech we have on the roster is Billings, and he's signed just thru '25, not to mention he'll be 30 when his contract is up. I'd like to see more emphasis on this position.

I only resurrected this thread, which will likely be brought up time and again as the season progresses, because when I first started it, I'm pretty sure the majority of us Bear diehards were looking at the pass rusher spot for our 1st pick in '25. Perhaps many continue seeing that as our top need. A ton of football still to be played, but as of this moment, I have to wonder if the Edge/DE remains in that spot.

The D is not exactly setting the world on fire, but our 10 sacks ranks in the middle of the pack, which is a refershing change of pace. Interestingly enough, Darrell Taylor ranks 7th in pass rush win rate, and Gervon Dexter ranks 6th. Overall, our defense currently ranks 10th in YPG. Naturally, regardless of position, Poles will simply take the BPA on his board. Still, we have to start wondering if the OL might be creeping up on that board, at least at this point.

That oline is definetley top on our list.......

I could see the no.1 pick and one of our 2nd round picks on oline......
And the other 2nd rd'er on dline......

And our def kept us close in the Houston,so thats something to be said, but other than that,we have not played anyone with a top caliber offense.......

Since the end of the offseason, I've pretty much felt that BPA aside, at least by position I'd like to see the trenches addressed with our first three picks. Not sure how that combination would pan out - we have to consider who Poles might go after in free agency. But assuming no major impact signing, I'd definitely be down for the trenches. Right now it certainly looks like the OL is the unit most in need of talent infusion.

First time I'm seeing a '25 mock draft where the Bears are going OL with their first pick:

15. Chicago Bears — Emery Jones, OT, LSU

This is about injecting more talent into the offensive line and since there are no real center candidates that make sense in this spot, the Bears go with Will Campbell’s LSU tacklemate. Jones can get out of position at times, but he has the size and length to stay out at tackle. With the Bears, he could create a powerful right side of the offensive line with Darnell Wright.

The damning part of this is having us drafting 15th - that would not only keep us out of the playoffs, but would likely indicate a losing record. Fuck that.

Forgive in advance my occasionally tossing in updated info on this way too early '25 draft thread. But what the hell, it's the start of bye week and despite our overall improved play, I remain focused on the trenches for our earlier picks of next year's draft. CBS Sports has provided an updated Top 50 take on this year's college talent. It's possible that we end up with four picks in the top 50, altho I hope we don't because that means we'll have finished higher up in the standings. Anyway, here is the top 50, with the DT/Edge group highlighted in BOLD BLACK, the OL in BOLD RED:

1. Travis Hunter, CB, Colorado
2. Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
3. Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
4. Mason Graham, DL, Michigan
5. Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
6. Kelvin Banks Jr., OT, Texas
7. Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
8. Deone Walker, DL, Kentucky
9. Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
10. Cam Ward, QB, Miami
11. Kenneth Grant, DL, Michigan
12. Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
13. Nic Scourton, ED, Texas A&M
14. Will Campbell, OT, LSU
15. Mykel Williams, ED, Georgia
16. Abdul Carter, ED, Penn State

17. Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame
18. Malaki Starks, S, Georgia
19. Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas
20. James Pearce, ED, Tennessee
21. Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan
22. Garrett Nussmeier, QB, LSU
23. Aireontae Ersery, OT, Minnesota
24. Shemar Stewart, ED, Texas A&M

25. Danny Stutsman, LB, Oklahoma
26. Jalen Royals, WR, Utah State
27. Jack Sawyer, ED, Ohio State
28. Charles Grant, OT, William & Mary
29. J.T. Tuimoloau, ED, Ohio State

30. Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State
31. Carson Beck, QB, Georgia
32. Denzel Burke, CB, Ohio State
33. Donovan Ezeiruaku, ED, Boston College
34. Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas
35. Landon Jackson, ED, Arkansas
36. Quinshon Judkins, RB, Ohio State
37. TJ Sanders, DL, South Carolina
38. Davison Igbinosun, CB, Ohio State
39. Princely Umanmielen, ED, Ole Miss
40. Tacario Davis, CB, Arizona
41. Tyleik Williams, DL, Ohio State
42. Jonah Savaiinaea, OT, Arizona
43. Donovan Jackson, OG, Ohio State

44. Walter Nolen, DL, Texas A&M

45. Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas
46. Jalon Walker, LB, Georgia
47. Jaxson Dart, QB, Mississippi
48. Kamari Ramsey, S, USC
49. Kyle Kennard, ED, South Carolina
50. Derrick Harmon, DL, Oregon

As you can see, the Top 50 is loaded with DL talent, but quite short on the OL, with only 6 making the grade. It might behoove Poles to act early by grabbing an OL while the picking is good.

@Lake Shore Drive LOL Your last post doesn’t even include the guy from the post before. Just goes to show what a waste of time mock drafts are this early.

It's not a mock draft, it's an updated list of the top players for next year's draft. Natually, this list is going to change, not only amongst other sites, but even the same sites posting, as players move up and down the boards, or move into or out of them as well.

My suggestion is if this bothers you, don't waste your time reading it.

The first of the two posts I commented on absolutely was a mock draft. A freaking mock draft with us picking at 15 where the player isn't even on a top 50 list? WTF? Deserved comment.

Technicality corrections aside, I won't read them anymore for you sweet cheeks. Hell, as a bonus I promise to forget the name of the guy that mock draft had for us at 15...An un-read, if you will. ;)

Sweet cheeks? I've been graced with countless numbers of insults over the years, but sweet cheeks had yet to appear until now. Not sure if I feel blessed or cursed.

So three points of interest here from this latest CBS Sports draft update (yes, slots will change, players selected will change, life will change):

1. They now have the Bears drafting 23rd, which obviously means we'll have made the playoffs, and so will the other three Norris teams.
2. The pick is for an IOL, which shouldn't be that shocking, as it just might be our weakest area at this point - including CENTER, damn it.
3. If their predicted order of finish turns out to be correct, we'll have the 34th pick in the draft as well. Yeah baby.
