I'm no expert with cap figures or roster management, just having fun.
I started this way before Cousins was tagged and players like Phil Taylor and Tharold Simon were added to the roster.
Once he was tagged, it did limit what I could do in FA, so I focused on bringing the 2016 team back.
Finally, I'd like to give credit to Mknight82 -- a poster from another site who inspired this template for making off-season threads.

Offense:
I think with Long getting to focus solely on C, and signing Leary at LG, we will be able to get away with Kelley, Thompson and Jones for one more year. K.D. Cannon's athletic ability will allow him to fill the one-trick pony role, and score on the long ball in single coverage. If Doctson stays healthy, the offense should be fine and may even improve with less mouths to feed in the red zone.

Defense:
I think Kerrigan is going to have a 20 sack season. Murphy made teams pay for attempting to double Kerrigan all game, and Josh Norman no doubt helped the defensive line get coverage sacks. It isn't totally out of the picture to think Adams, Hooker or Peppers could all be there at #17 but realistically, going with BPA on defense may mean taking a CB. Tabor could have the same impact as Bradley Roby in Denver before taking over the starting job in 2018. In FA, getting an Ideal 3-4 front was a must. Once teams realized we were intent on stopping the pass, they destroyed us on the ground. Bringing back Baker, and getting him some of the more efficient linemen in the league was worth it.
In the draft, I'm only looking for Tabor and Menliwonfu to make an immediate impact.
All the other picks should become 2nd string in 2018 or eventual starters.

With that 8 mil left id want desean back. Or him back instead of Garcon.

I'd also like to see RB addressed in the draft.

I like the FAs I think but is Richardson one?

Overall I don't think that's bad at all though.

Thanks Ehb5, even though it's a mock off-season, some consideration for what appeals to the audience does go into this. To address your statements --
I'd love to have DeSean back too, but I think he can make $10 million a year somewhere else.
Would he be willing to stay here for $2mil less? I hope so. So I went with Garcon who is probably willing to sign for 8 to 8.5mil per.

We have depth at RB, I believe the position in this offense is more so for moving the chains and time of possession. If Kirk continues to play well, I don't think it is a priority to improve this year.

Sheldon Richardson is likely on his way out of New York, like many other players who simply cost too much to keep on the roster. I believe there are some quality ILB who will also be released, and that is why there is a decent amount cap space left over as well. Many different ways to go with this, but it's my first shot at doing an off-season...and i wasn't interested in just doing a mock draft:D

Pretty good Country! !!! My changes to that would be DJax instead of Pierre and we could banter a bit over Bennie Logan vs. Brandon Williams.

Draft wise, again pretty good! My changes there would be, if we left player position as you have them, plugging in Mixon instead of Foreman and NEVER wasting a pick on a QB in the 7th round. My policy is drafting one lower than the 3rd round generally yields nothing. Well thought out Free agency and Draft though, good job!!!

I like this too Country, I think we were on the same page in FA. I see Thomas as more of a OLB than a DE but I haven't looked at a ton of tape on him. I think JuJu is a steal, and a bad senior year has dropped his stock. good pick. I don't know a lot about the other guys but they have gotten positive reviews.
Not crazy about Foreman - but you never know, nice job

Thomas is a top 10 pick. Its very possible we could add Logan, Poe, and HIghtower on defense in FA.

If Thomas, Rueben Foster and Barnett are all there at #17, are you still taking Thomas?

NO. Im taking Foster. I not even going to study Thomas b/c I believe he is a top 10 pick. Very doubtful that Foster will be at #17b but I will play along.

I agree on Foster probably being gone, I was just curious about Thomas because he has pretty much switched places with Barnett off of 1 game. Barnett dropped out of the top 10 and Thomas who is labeled a "tweener" is going top 5 lately in mocks, and will be hyped up even more with a good combine. Plus the word on the street is Allen has bad shoulders, lol. Thats why i believe he may be forced into OLB duty unless he is a poor mans Joey Bosa

If we come out of this FA period with signing only 3 FA starters than it will be considered a disaster. We need at least 5 starters. Our defense was so poor last year that some average FAs would start depending on the position. I would like to see a combination of upper, mid and lower tier FAs. I hope we stay away from bloated contracts for 30 yr old plus FA. There are plenty of FAs available that we can afford them.

Player like:

Gerald Hodges = ILB
DJ Swearinger = Safety
Robert Woods = WR
Malcolm Smith = ILB
Lawrence Guy = DE
Kevin Minter = ILB

Should not cost too much and would be instant upgrades at any of those positions. I hope we don't blow through our cap in signing just 3 players. That would be the last thing we need to do.

How can we release and cut so many players but sign only 3 big name FAs? We have to fill their slots.

I agree. I love the idea of upgrading and bringing competition to ever position on the team. However, you can't cut 10 players and only sign 3 to replace them. Unless we have one heck of a draft...which I would love!

I just don't understand why we have so many holes year in and year out. At least the OLine is good for change. It only took 10 years to address that need. Outside of RG, we are pretty solid I think.

Because they are perceived holes. Every team has them...we just bitch more than most. We don't hide them very well either. Most teams will have a hole at each level on defense which can be masked by other players...we have holes throughout entire layers...can't mask that. One good DL, a good ILB, and our defense is much different.
