Joan Crawford also put out a favorable case study on whoopings. I will find the link.

Lol, so now we are picking and choosing what studies we want to accept?

You guys brought up these studies like it was 100% facts for all kids, and now when i show studies that contradict your studies, its not legit.

Here's another study that shows both sides:

My parents did not spank me as a kid, but instead would ground me, take things away, etc. I turned out pretty good....never got arrested, suspended, etc. I'll never forget when I was in elementary school a friend and I stayed way out past curfew and didn't get home until about 11:00pm. The cops were called, the whole nine yards. Anyway, I got grounded for a month, but saw my buddy the next day playing outside. At school he told me that dad had whooped him, and that was it. I came home and asked my dad if I could get a whipping instead so I could hang out with my friends, and he told me if I didn't shut up and quit complaining, I'd get my grounding doubled. Never missed curfew again. LOL

And we have a Pussy crowd who think whooping your children is child abuse.

It is child abuse. But hey, when your kids start hitting their kids, remember this. In fact if they DON'T hit their kids, tell 'em to 'Man Up' and show 'em how it's done.

And i cant stand people who thinks hitting your child is child abuse.

Lol, you said a Doctoral candidate will tell you whooping your children will do nothing to change their attitude? Then how do you explain the millions and millions of people, for decades, saying it did. How the hell are you going to tell ME it didn't change my attitude? And this isn't about a 4 year old, its about kids period.

Welcome to REAL LIFE, where kids are discipline by getting hit. It's always been like that and will be forever. If you don't like it, kill yourself.

Woohoo. Parent of the year material. Child Protective Services must be at your house every Thanksgiving for keeping them in a job.:gaah:

Maybe they should try my dads technic of laying leather to butt. It successfully adjusted my attitude 100% of the time. But I deserved every one of them. When I had a daughter I transitioned to the evil stare and that worked for us.

Peterson told investigators that he saw this as a "normal spanking" and not excessive. CBS Minnesota and Jay Glazer both report that earlier, a grand jury decided not to charge Peterson but that a newly seated grand jury indicted him.

CBS Houston reports that the "whooping" occurred after Peterson's 4-year-old son pushed another one of his sons off of a "motorbike video game." Peterson allegedly sent text messages to the child's mother after hitting him. From CBS Houston:

Peterson also allegedly said via text message to the child’s mother that he “felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I (sic) thigh” and also acknowledged the injury to the child’s scrotum in a text message, saying, “Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I’m all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!”

In further text messages, Peterson allegedly said, “Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has the biggie heart but don’t play no games when it comes to acting right.”

In police reports, the child said that "Daddy Peterson hit me on my face,” and that he was scared that Peterson would punch him in the face. The child also told his mother " that Peterson 'likes belts and switches' and 'has a whooping room.'"

Jeez. So sad for so many reasons.

I don't sense an angry, out of control father, but a loving one that's a bit misguided. I get it though. He's doing what he was taught is appropriate in order to discipline a child. Until now, I doubt anyone around him has even questioned his methods.

I'm sincerely wishing the best for him and his kids.

If the Vikings had any balls they would release Adrian Peterson

So they deactivate this guy from playing Sunday for their team. He has yet to be convicted. He's coming straight forward with the truth and how he handles his son.

Obviously management didn't like it or they would not have deactivated him. They know the details.

If you don't like it stand up and release Peterson.

Spanking leaves bruises. It is a normal human body reaction to a spanking. Spanking with a switch will leave marks. Again, a normal human body reaction.

For me to come close to convicting him of anything "abuse" related - they would have to show me a whole lot more. Open wounds; bleeding; leaving scars; etc...

My wife and I decided a while back that we would not physically discipline our kids. That was a personal choice - but that is not the world that I grew up in.

When I was growing up (in Texas) I got the pleasure of choosing my switch off a tree when I acted up. I had a very good loving family, and not once did it ever cross my mind that I was being abused. In school we would get the paddle. We even knew which teacher had which paddle. One of our coaches had a paddle with holes in it - and we knew not to act up in his class.

If all this is, is a normal spanking with a switch, on the buttocks, which left a few temporary marks - then I am ashamed of the society we live in now. If this is more than that - then I feel truly sorry for the kid, and AP deserves what is coming his way.

I think part of the problem here is that AD is an absent 'father' to numerous children with different mothers. I have a problem with that...

As mentioned above, the term 'switch' is common to people of my generation, in the part of the world where i grew up (Texas).

My father was absent, and eventually my mom left him. The mom was the disciplinarian in my family, and her threat to 'get a switch' was a common refrain, though she only did it a few times, usually on my trouble-making little brother, and he usually laughed.

My pop did whip me once, for climbing a tree he told me to stay out of and breaking a big limb. The whipping was no big deal.

In elementary and Jr High, the principles had paddles, and getting 'licks' was a common occurence. Plus I had friends that were spanked with belts from their fathers, seemed common.

Times change. In the past what happened in the family was the family's business including the wife getting beaten. Same with beating children. Some people here are trying that a spanking or a swat on the butt has it's place but there aren't too many that want to claim that beating a child is still ok.

Our coach/science teacher in 7th grade had a collection of paddles of every size and shape displayed over the chalk board in his classroom. Most of them made in the wood shop by students. One was actually the middle of a short baseball bat sliced into thirds. More than one was broken and taped together for display purposes. There was one that had tacks driven through it (I'm pretty sure he never used that one). Many occasions I saw him select a paddle, walk next door to get the math teacher and step back into the room to call one of us out. A silence would fall over the room. So quite you could hear a cheerleader fart. Then you would her it (or feel it) echoing down the hall. A few seconds later a red faced kid would walk back in the room, the paddle was returned to the wall and class would continue without another word on the matter.

Look at what has happened to this world with a generation of kids who were never spanked. I never spanked BECAUSE my parents did it. Hangars, straps, something that can swing longer than their arm that was in reach was used. A switch, most probably cause much less damage than Adrians hand would have done.

Its a parents right, no its a parents responsibility to discipline. There are kids driving around texting and facebooking with no worry about what will happen to them. They will kill more than a switch will kill.

I cant believe a man is being arrested for disciplining his child. What are they gonna start doing, storing these players in glass houses during the weeks of the season?
