For a fucking gambling app

FWIW, if the app being developed is viable, it will likely more than make up for his 70 mil loss. From what I've read/heard, the app being developed would make it possible to bet in real time, ie "Place bet if X team picks up this 4th down and 5". No technology exist for that right now as sports betting has just become legal. If/when it happens, there's going to be a bajillion metric shitton of cash generated from that technology

No potential nfl caliber player ( the type who need development ) is going to risk playing a full contact sport for no money . You can't have a minor leagues in a sport like football . Guys are better off training on their own and trying to catch on than they are blowing out their knee for 8k a year. Even a real developmental league like the G league loses it's best players to Europe and that's in a sport where injury is far less likely

There’s no Europe league for a developmental guy to go to. The AAF and XFL were competing with NCAA football in a way and now that the AAF is out of the. XFL is the only other avenue for players to make money and play. The AAF folding is a huge loss for the NFLPA because they are the weakest union in the entire world.

Vince has money, but it doesn't mean he can afford to lose tens of millions a year like this Dundon cat just did in a matter of weeks.
It’s weird because the aaf tv ratings were actually decent. Not huge but much better than anything cbs sports and the nfl network usually has in those time slots

it was obvious this wasn't going to make it when they couldn't meet payroll after 1 week. Very poorly put together.

Bovada had play by play betting but it was only for the super bowl

The league was doomed once they failed to get the NFLPA on board.
It was more than that even. The league was underfunded, which hurt as well, but fan interest was never that great. While there are many folks like all of us in here who have a year round interest in football, it doesn't mean everyone wants to see football played year round. And that's especially so when the league is filled with the football equivalent of minor league players. This experiment never stood a chance and frankly I'm surprised that so many people here thought it would.

Why would they depend on another league's player's association?

The NFLPA's mandate is to protect the NFL players. It isn't up to them to provide players for another league.

Which is the NFLPA’s primary failure. There job is suppose to be creating new NFLPA jobs, not stopping the ability to create jobs. In any other field that is unionized a union would jump on the chance to collect money from a person doing their same job but on the side. The NFLPA’s biggest complaint on why they are a joke of a union is because there is no leverage to strike because all of the low paying earners can’t afford to strike, don’t close an avenue for them.

Spring Football is an incompetent concept. Part of what has made American Football the new (unofficial) American past time is the limited availability. Anticipation builds every offseason. Anticipation build every week while in-season. Hell, the NFL has even over-saturated the market with their own product. Between CFB and the NFL, Tuesday is practically the only night where there isn't a football game on TV, from September to January.

The trouble with all of this conjecture is the AAF assumed that the NFLPA would jump at the chance. I'm not privy to what the sticking points were, but the AAF shouldn't have started until those points were ironed out.

For me it was hard to watch because of the horrible QB play. The NFL has some teams with atrocious QB’s. So, there was no way in hell any of these teams would field a competent QB.
