Vargas retires the final 23 for a 3 hit and no walk CGSO.

Was even one of those "Maddux Shutouts" of all things.

Starting watching and stopped. Wish I would have kept watching. :L

Madduxesque hey?? 97 pitches almost 10-12 too many. Greg would amaze me when he would do 80some pitch CG. Great outing by Vargas either way!

What I find bizarre is a bullpen is one of the easier things to fix. Doesn't take a whole lot of prospect ammo/cash to fix a bad pen. Even KC had problems outside of their backend and it's a very different group now with Frasor, Bueno, Downs, and Chen in the fold.

Thats what some tiger fans been saying since spring training. Vice told me tigers BP WAS GREAT. Top 5. Heard about all these prospects. Aint seen em yet myself. I dont go to ALL the tiger spring training games like someone:noidea:

In other news. ......TIGERS WIN TIGERS WIN!!! HOLY FRIGGIN SHIT!

Ahhhhhh tulo done for the year. Hurts the jub jubs. Lucky i got baez. That goes back to our debate a few months back about tulo being one of the greatest this yr. i said dont jinx him cuz hes mr glass.

glad to see many of you homers over reacting.
tigers go on a 9 game road trip,go 2-7 during the dog days. the sky is not falling. and the Royals are still the Royals. the worst is over.

GREAT.....well there goes the tigers chances. Good ole dougie jinx.

Hey dougie did that york kid learn to throw a suckerpunch from roider lewan? Guess hes trying to be a team captain. Too bad he wasnt the starting kicker. They might wait til the end of his senior yr to kick him off.

I have many times, i dont have a problem letting someone know when they are wrong. I call it like I see it. What tiger fault have you called out that Ive been hurt by? I stated explicitly the problem with the tigers bullpen before the season started, and like any rational baseball fan my concerns have been spot on. That is their biggest fault, you are worried about replacing don kelly? Hes not going to be what prevents them from winning it all. The bullpen though just might.

you guys are both wrong, said before the season until the tigers spend a SMALL amount of money to replace bullpen (coke is finally gone)Santiago, Kelly, Avila...the Tigers don't want to commit to winning it all.

They traded a solid starter for 1.3 years of Price. If Scherzer isn't signing in Detroit... good luck signing Price. If anything they are all in in the same way the A's are right now.

Detroit traded for Price ONLY because Oakland traded for Lester....if Oakland doesn't make that move, Detroit only move would have been Soria and Oakland still would have out maneuvered them. That's not a move to go "all in". Detroit has had 4 or 5 years to fix their bullpen problems and their lower half of their lineup, with that kind of money, it should have been fixed by now. They have been letting Miggy and JV carry the load of some really crappy players, not average players, really crappy ones.

Huh? Why would a starter care if another starter signs or not? (Trading Price in the offseason is something that seems a possibility to me. As does extending him.) Im not following your logic here. (This could just be anti-Doug posting, haven't read previous page. Hate it when you guys go all anti-Doug mode.)

1) Wasn't my intention to go that route, my bad if that is how that reads.

2) Just pointing out to Dabums that is outlandish to say the Tigers aren't committed to winning it all.

I was just confused as to why Scherzer leaving would lessen the odds of Price extending. (Frees up tons of money if nothing else. Not to mention Hunter's deal being done.)

DD is half-assed all-in every year. He'll trade a minor leaguer (no matter the consensus, or brcause of the consensus opinion.) for a proven player, all day e'ryday. so long as the proven player isn't a freakin' lefty reliever. :gaah:(That's the only downside of the Price deal. No Smyly in the PS/September pen. )

Loved the Willingham addition! (Sonofa!) Hadnt told you two that yet.

Joe Nathan and Detroit fans seem to be at odds. Does it have anything to do with his ERA? :noidea:

My logic is pretty much this, if Scherzer turns down 140 million from the Tigers, Price is going to ask more as he is a better pitcher; knowing this, how do the Tigers extend or resign Price? By letting Hunter, Vmart, and Scherzer walk?

I am just having a hard time putting two and two together financials wise. Then again, maybe I am undershooting the Tigers payroll flexibility.

"Hey, fuck off, I am Joe Motherfucking Nathan!"

Joe Nathan's reaction if you said this to his face I bet even if unsaid. He has been a real douche this year, imho.

They'll raise ticket prices again. DD has earned the bigger checkbook by putting butts in seats more than by winning games. (They go together but the former is more important.). Started with Pudge. Grew with Maggs. Went wild with Fielder. JV and Miggy, as great as they are/were, got people to buy tickets. (JV got that long deal because hes the American face. The franchise pitcher. They didnt plan on continued dominance anymore than you did when he got that money.) So.... If Mr. I, or the I family, thinks a signing will generate ticket sales, out comes the wallet. (Thank you NHL salary cap.). Inge and Raburn both got to stick around because soccer moms paid $65 to watch their sorry asses. (Plus Raburn had incriminating photos.)

I think Max is a priority because he's loved. (Not by me, but that's another convo.). Hunter won't get paid much by anyone. He's not really starting caliber these days. Hard, free swinging, lousy outfielder. (Good guy, good arm, great head on his shoulders, even better smile.)But I still like him if he wants to play for 5-6.5mil. VMart will be overpaid for 2-4 years IMO. He's a pros pro. Just a treat to watch. He's a man with a finely honed craft. And who in the world doesn't want to hit behind Miggy?

I don't necissarily see Price in long term plans. Could be. But I could see him dealt for pieces if Max doesn't want to go home to the Cards. (That's my guess.)

I think if max leaves that makes it more likely price will sign with us. We will just throw max's money his way....id actually rather have price. I like max but we need a LHP in the rotation.
