the reason he was brought up....Royals needed an affordable power bat before the deadline..Crawford just came off the DL and LAD now had 4 outfielders and they said he would get less ABs...He was in the royals price range and has power all day long...looks like Adam Dunn's size...and by looking at his minor league numbers he can hit.

Nicky C would be hitting .220 if he saw junk ballers. Jalopy might be longgggg gone, but he was so wrong. Kids curve is extreme. The kid gloves haven't come off. But I do think he's a regular MLB starter next year. Which is something. We don't wait on those often.

Van Slyke is a platoon guy. Maybe a trade target in the offseason for a fringe arm if we decide to start Dyson- which wouldn't be a bad idea at all and I would be behind it, but nothing too valuable- that precedent was already set with Danny Valencia.

It isnt like they havent tried....joba, nathan, soria, hanrahan, krol.......i wanted them to fix BP too, but it doesnt matter who they get....they end up getting the curse of todd jones/fat potatovalverde....

AMEN -- it is exactly what I've been saying over and over to people who continue to say the Tigers haven't upgraded their bullpen.

It isn't for a lack of effort. Joe Nathan was the best closer on the market and they went out and signed him. He had an obnoxiously good season last year and has pitched like crap for us. They went out and signed Joba and he has been a welcome addition and the best arm in the bullpen for us. They traded Fister (UGH) and received a lefty in Ian Krol who was supposed to take over Coke's role and he has pitched like trash. They traded for Soria, who was pitching lights out for Texas, with 44k's and like 3 walks in 33 innings with a 2.30 ERA. He comes to Detroit and his ERA is now 3.70 and he is on the DL.

Detroit's bullpen is almost entirely different from the previous year, sans one or two guys. Every move they have made looked great on paper, with the exception of the Joba signing. All the moves that looked great have blew up in their face. The move everyone questioned -- signing Joba, has worked out great.

Detroit just needs to find a few pieces and pray to the lord above the starters go 7-8 innings every game. LOL

He is pretty good against LHP last I looked which is what Dyson is generally awful against. Would be a good fit next offseason in a trade if it happened.

Royals are playing some good baseball right now, that's for sure. Would be awesome to see them win the division. Even if they don't, I could still see them grabbing a WC.

At the very least, it's nice to see them contending again.

Willing to bet Scott Van Slyke doesn't look too hot once he gets REAL work vs RHP instead of little small sample sizes.

Royals have to make sure not to do what the Tigers do. Sweep the best teams like Oakland and Dodgers and O's then turn around play down to inferior teams.
