This has nothing to do with increasing payroll idiot. They just agreed to pay him through his arbitration years. His estimated contract was already figured into this year and next years estimated payrolls. Ahhh, but I am sure you will be right about royals trading Hosmer, Cain and Moose in 2016.
Notice they didn't extend him past his arbitration years? That is a pretty big sign that Cain has no interest in sticking around once he can leave via free agency.
