at some point they are going to get very very top heavy like the yanks did....years of depleting the farm system and signing guys to expensive long term deals will catch up.

The Tigers and Indians are pretty close talent wise overall right now in my opinion- but that gap is just going to increase over the next couple years due to the disparity in farm systems, and the aging of Detroit's core players that will still be signed up.

I mean- the advantage of having Carrasco signed for like 5 years at like 48 million is just HUGE...same with Kluber--- Salazar isnt going anywhere....Brantely i belive has 3 more years left (or maybe 2) at like 8 million a year or something, Lindor is here for 6 more years before he is a free agent, Kipnis is signed long term at like less than 10M a year....

all that cost certainty, and talent helps

Its extremely hard to put together a well rounded roster when you are giving a ton of big money to guys over 30 and your farm system is one of the poorer ones around...

I do wonder how Terry Francona is perceived should the Indians have another underwhelming season

Ive always seen him as a bit overrated, having built a reputation after one great run with a loaded Sox team

Cmon, that was pretty dead on
you might want to take a look at the kid the Tigers drafted in the 1st round last year... and the kid they drafted in the second. They also have a kid named Fulmer... and a good collection of relief pitching prospects...

Their farm system actually isn't that bad when you look at pitching only.. they are ranked 26th because they have no position talent worth a shit. they most certainly have some good pitching talent.

Vice, I think the only thing that puts a smile on your face is typing the word 'd - i - c - k' on your keyboard since you seem to do it several dozen times a day.

Vice, is there a psychological reason why you have an avatar of your favorite player with what appears to be a big black phallus?

Better than the Jays? I am gonna call your bluff on that one.
cubs too probably...

Detroit was 10th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in runs last year...the Tribe was 11th--- 20 runs behind

Cespedes played great before being dealt.....kinsler, vmart, miggy are a year older--- but the Tigers could have the best offense in baseball after being TENTH IN THE LEAGUE last year?

are you drunk?

do you really think its that far fetched? the tigers had the best BA, and were among the best in OBP and OPS last year in the entire MLB.... and they added a better hitter in Upton that has a much better career OBP, and they are healthy. If they stay healthy.. I would most certainly say they can be every bit as good as the jays.. or better.

What's interesting is just how right handed it is. Going to see a lot of specialists sneak in on some teams I am betting in the Central because of it.

Detroit has no plan....because they have no minor league prospects to plan a future around. The build a team much like you go shopping at a supermarket. Grab something off the shelf as you go up and down each aisle. I even agree with Vice about Mike Avila...unless he is a SUPER clubhouse guy, he was not needed. I am sure Pelfry was signed because some scout/front office guy had a ''feeling'' about him. I can just hear it..."Boyd didn't show much, let's grab Pelfry."

This from the guy who used to say we fans can't criticize the manager because we've never managed an MLB game ... now you portend to know how to build an MLB team. Fer chrissakes, at least be consistent.

I'm sure there is a plan in place. Yeah, to some extent, it appears they are more or less "collecting baseball cards", i.e. turning the card over and saying, "Wow, look at those stats!" with perhaps not much thought given to how that player fits with the team. But that doesn't lead me to think there is no plan.

His approach to hitting changed greatly. He was too pull-happy early in his career. I'd bet nearly half of his HR were to right field last year.

13, or 34% were to right, but your point is still well taken. 21 of his HRs were to basically dead center or right.

it does crack me up that all the rhetoric on how crappy the Indians offense is and how great the Tigers offense is that the Tigers were 10th in the AL last year a mere 20 runs in front of the Indians.

i mean cmon, man.....lol.....

please tell us how many more hr's the tigers hit---- the only problem dude? ITS RUNS that matter- not HR's...

Considering how far ahead the Jays were in terms of runs, I'd argue they're the prohibitive favorite for the time being.

who are the tigers good young players? anyone that is an impact guy? please dont say castellano or igleasias because i will laugh. decent solid average players....but i am at a loss as to one solidly above average position player on the Tigers that is young.

yes.. considering that miggy and vmart were hurt for a large part of last year.. i really don't think its out of the question.. but you are to retarded to understand why the tigers didn't score more runs.. even though they hit the ball and got on base better than just about every team.

Okay, I was a bit off. Still, 38 HR, and only 17 were pulled to left. That's a sign of a more mature hitter.
