Not watching, but Heston looks like he is putting a lice box score together. 5 IP, 2 R, 1.2 WHIP

If these score stand up, we will have to sweep LA this week, then we actually have a glimmer of hope. A very faint glimmer, but glimmer none the less.

I would prefer the Rox choke and the As come back though. I just don't want the dogs celebrating at AT&T.

Marty mentioned today that he WANTS the dogs to clinch against the Giants. I don't get that mindset.

Do you guys think there is any possibility of restricting the game rosters in September to 28 or so? This idea has been getting a lot of traction on KNBR this week, but I have no idea if it is even in a national discussion.

You just look for something to gripe about, don't you? Seriously.

The team is winning, but hasn't scored in a few innings, so someone much chine in with an incompetence post.

We've already swept them twice this season, so let's make it THREE. Yeah, yeah, fyww is not as reliable as in past seasons, and no Pence, Aoki BB9 or :gaah:. Fuck 'em, it's in our hands (well somewhat). I remember when Z pitched the "game of his life" to keep us alive, and JA dug down deep, and Biggie MANNED UP. Who's to say another or two won't step up??

Don't like it. That makes roster moves even more complicated with all the injuries the Giants have had. I much prefer all the extra guys. Teams out of it can rest their regulars and see what they've got for next year and the teams still in contention can dig a little deeper.

Not at all. The Giants can still have 33 guys on the ML roster. But each game they can only have 28 (whatever the number is) active for that game. So if someone gets hit by a pitch and needs a day, he isn't "activated" for the next day's game. Same for SPs between starts (Bum may be an exception). This makes the games more legit and teams will not have bottomless bullies to allow every pitcher to only pitch to 1 batter.

Our chances of catching the Dodgers must be less than 1%. Heck, it is probably less than 0.5%, but whatever, it's good to see that we are still mathematically alive. If the road ends here in our ballpark, I just hope it doesn't happen in the first two games. Anything to make the Dodgers sweat it out a little bit more and to force them to use their starters is a good thing. Of course I don't want them to clinch here, but I don't have very strong feelings about it. We put ourselves in this position.

Mathematically speaking, assuming 50/50 outcomes of all games...

There is a 12.5% chance the Giants sweep the dogs. There is also a 12.5% chance the dogs get swept by the Puds and a 12.5% chance the Giants sweep the Rox. Since the Giants are allowed to have ONE of those two series simply end 2-1 instead of 3-0, one of those odds can be adjusted to 25% instead. Of course, this is only enough to tie the dogs.

Therefore...

12.5% * 12.5% * 25% = 0.39%

So yes. The Giants have approximately a 1/250 chance of tying the dogs for the West this year, a 1/500 chance of winning it.

I haven't heard the chatter and misunderstood your post. I thought this 28 man active roster was in place of expanding the roster to a 40 man roster. Interesting idea but I don't really see the need for it. I'd be more interested a new rule created that allows a manager to use a pitcher for only one batter no more than once an inning.

I HATE that idea. That is really just gymnastics to force strategy out of the game. Force that strategy through the size of the roster, not by some arbitrary rule. This isnt football.

I didnt realize the dog series was a 4-gamer...

The Giants have a 1/500 chance of tying and a 1/1000 chance of winning the division.
