K-Cya shuts them down, Giants win

Bright side: Giants have won two of past three series (if you count @ OAK, vs. OAK as one series)

I don't know if anybody else is watching this, but the "Inside the Clubhouse" that is currently playing on CSN-BA is fricking HILARIOUS. I didn't see the first 10 minutes, but it sounds as if it is very recent, and possibly even live. A bunch of Giants players are lined up on stools in front of the RF wall, and are giving funny answers to interview questions.

OK, it wasn't recorded today, but it WAS recorded after the season started this year (one of the closing fan comments was "best record in all of baseball!").

Special Delivery....Giants win 8-4 ..win series and go to the break 9 games over .500

The Giants got pissed off and MadBumed about what's been going on for the last month today. They seemed to take out all the frustrations on the last game before the break on the D-Backs and take the series 2 games to one. Madison Bumgarner strode to the mound with the look of a enforcer . He played with so much emotion and drive that he lifted the team to another level. The whole team seemed to kick it up a notch today.

It did not look good early on as Arizona took a 1-0 lead into the 5th inning and the fans had to be looking around saying..... oh God please not again. It was a game where the offense needed to show up and they did finally in the bottom of the 5th when Bumgarner,Pence, and Sandoval who beat out a infield hit to get on which might of been the most important hustle play of the year so far loaded the bases. Up stepped Flash Gordon (Posey) who hit a high majestic HR to left that traveled 419 feet through time. It was a Grand Slam and the Giants had a lead 4-1. The Giants had dropped that monkey off their backs right there on 3rd and King . A relief fell over the crowd and in the Giants dugout.

The party was just getting started because in the 6th inning MADBUM stepped up with the sacks loaded and drilled a screeching line drive HR to left for another Grand Slam on this glorious July sunny day. The fans went nutz and the guy in the stands who wore jersey #40 with SNOTROCKET on his back got pats on the back from fans all around him. The Giants had jumped out to a 8-1 lead and the beer flowed freely again at AT&T Park. It was the first time in MLB history where a starting catcher and pitcher hit Grand Slams in the same game.

It was a well played game by the Orange & Black who played some great defense also today. Pence with a awesome lunging snow cone catch in right near the wall. Sandoval was also a stand out player on both sides of the ball. Bum gave up a few late runs to make it 8-4 but the game was already over . The bullpen was large shutting down the D-Backs for the last 2 2/3 innings of the game.

It was a good way to go to the All Star break . Giants 9 games over .500 who can now take a much needed break to recharge and go large in the second half. It was good to see some emotion out there today and the team is looking ready to get pissed off for greatness. Cheers to Posey and Bum for making history today. The Giants seized the day and it was a beautiful day in the City to do just that.

Go Giants !!

Boch mentioned in the pre game show that he will remain the 8th inning guy for a while, at least. I think that is the right call. We were all a bit leery of him as the closer since day 1 anyway.

I would definitely leave him in the 8th. I always loved the Roogy/Loogy 8th innings. I've always been most comfortable with Romo there, and as you said, most were skeptical with Romo in the 9th. He was great, but I think we were all waiting for something to happen, whether he blew up his arm, or the league figured him out, or something. It just never sat right, like it did with Weez.

They really should consider playing Bum in Left during his non-pitching days...
(I am not 100% serious, but I am also not 100% joking)
Ruth did it for a while. Take his '19 season for example. As a pitcher he was 9-5, era 2.97, 133.1 innings, 30 SO, 58 BB and 2HR. As a hitter 103 runs, 29 HR, 113 RBI, .456 OBP, .657 SLG, 1.114 OPS, and all of those led the league.

So Bum's away era is .198 and his home era is .522 :wtf2:

His Jul era is 6.96. He is not trending downward.

Wrong board. I don't recall anyone here ever advocating for a DH in both leagues.

It was directed towards anyone who reads this site not just the members. Just throwing out a statement about the DH and how I am old school loving the NL game.

Gotcha. Not sure how many people come by and read the site, less than there used to be. We were pretty brutal with the trolls. We are of like mind on the DH thing, though it has been a career extender for some fine hitters, like Chili Davis.

I personally like the DH. Guys like Big Papi, Stoeks mentioned Davis, Nelson Cruz, Victor Martinez and many others who are having great careers still even at an older age.

I love the strategy of the NL game. You get to see the brilliance of a manager with double moves, pinch hitting and such. Also the whole bench is involved in the game and that means it becomes a real TEAM game. The AL is tee it up and see how far they can hit it. The NL is for the thinking man. It's how the game was formed and should stay that way at least in the NL. They can keep the DH in the AL. Fine with me but don't touch my NL game.

These are the exact reasons why I loathe the DH. If you can't play the field, you are a pinch hitter. The rule is just the game bending over backward to create higher scores. It has done more damage to the game that PEDs ever have, or could have done.

Agreed. It's like if they added a 6th player in basketball who only sits in the corner and shoots threes, and then comes off the court for a defensive specialist every defensive possession. You should have to deal with the defensive deficiencies of the offensive player if you want to reap the benefits of the offensive player, and vice-versa.

I'm afraid of this. So far this year, pitchers have been relatively healthy while batting (elbows are a different story), but every batting injury that piles up is an argument for a league wide DH. The Astros moving to the AL and making the leagues equal didn't help at all either. Also, offense sells. The only reason they created the DH in the first place was to drive up the offense and hope to sell more tickets.

It's not really being talked about, but I fear that it is near the front burner. It would be a sad day in baseball the day the implement a league wide DH.

And the union liked it. :D

This is true. The DH adds an extra starting-players salary to the roster.

However, the counter-argument to this is to simply add a 26th roster spot and eliminate the DH altogether. This should appease the union. However, expanding the roster just further reduces the required strategy that the non-DH adds to the game. Using your #2 catcher as a PH is a HUGE risk. But with a 26th spot, a would guess a lot of teams would go with the 3rd catcher, making the catcher-as-PH situation not so dire.

But, between the two options (universal DH or 26th roster spot) I would chose the 26th roster spot 9 days a week.
