Agreed we did do well defensively even given our injuries and give respect for drafting and developing the Defense this year. just hope our next head coach is an offense guy so we won't be stuck every other year finding a new OC who gets hired away by other teams. While both D coaches Desiree a chance to be head coach we would be right back to the 2005-2010 time zone always looking for a new OC. Just sad to see the 49ers going in circles due to "personalities".

There is a lot of speculation going on and its kind of hard to know the real truth. It appears little has to do with winning and the issue is Harbaugh butting heads with the GM and owner.

Yeah man ... You would think it has to be something going on behind the scenes...

one of the dumbest moves I ever saw a head coach with so much success in the NFL.

The guy has done such a good job for you guys ... Still kinda baffled he's leaving already ... 3 NFC title games and a Super Bowl in 3 fricking years .... It can't be from 1 down year, which by the way was partly injury related .... Kinda sucks the rivalry might not be as intense ... And I'm not implying the 49rs can't compete next year, just from a personality standpoint, Harbaugh and Carroll add too the rivalry ... It's been fun ....

yeah I don't get it. Only thing I can think of is that Harbaugh goes to mich(too use them) for like 2 years and then goes back to the NFL and 49ers get nothing.

Purguy, I too was thinking he would stay in the NFL. Maybe he'll coach at Michigan for a few years (4-5 years), have success and maybe even take the Wolverines to the college playoff. I think eventually he will go back to the NFL. He wants to win a Super Bowl. He's doing almost the same thing as Pete Carroll, although Carroll did not have much success in the NFL until with the Seahawks.

That will be the curse for signing Jim. Every head coaching vacancy will rumor Harbaugh as their next HC.

He very well may go back but hopefully put UofM in a good position before he does much like Shaw had at Stanford. The only thing UofM will have going for them the job he leaves for will have to give him total control and that is rare. Plus he knows his style works better in college.

Good luck replacing him.

The more I think about it the more I'm cool with Harbs leaving. The reason? If he were to stay it would just be a constant distraction for years to come as he seems to welcome this 'other teams want me' kind of BS. Good luck to him in whatever he decides but I hope he doesn't stay at this point.

I no longer care. Nothing we can do about it anyway. Just hope they make the right decision on a new HC. No Tomsula!

Hardest part of being a fan of any team. Or one of the most comforting, depending on your mindset.

Yes, but NOBODY, including NFL people close to the situation expected him to leave the NFL.

I think he is using Mich. He stays for 1-2 years and leaves to go back to the NFL. It just doesn't make sense to go back to college when u already have this much success in the NFL. Weird move by him. I guess his ego isn't that big for him to take a step backwards.

Not sure it is a step backwards. Other than Michigan is absolute horsesh*t right now! If anyone can bring them back, it's Jim. I think if he goes to any other team in the NFL, it'd be the same, rebuilding. Except now, he's gonna have to recruit HEAVILY and quick!

I'm thankful for his time in SF and wish him and his family the best!

going back to college is backwards especially when your brother and Pete Carroll has a Super Bowl plus the success he has had in the NFL going back to college is pointless. Its not like he was a bad HC and couldn't make it and he needed to go back to college. This move makes no sense. Plus he loves the west coast and now has to move.

This whole thing is weird and like I said wouldn't shock me if he is back in the NFL in 2 years….3 years the most.

I don't understand why he is leaving. Differences between him and the FO? No desire to coach in the NFL anymore?

Harbaugh isnt getting along with owner and GM. That seems to be the recurring theme

Greater desire to return home.

Coaching in college means that Harbaugh would have complete control of personnel. He would be like the coach and GM.

yes in a way but winning a superbowl is greater then a NCS especially when his brother and pete carroll has one.
