If our new OC keeps pounding the rock, the Cowboys will win the East

3.58 YPC is not "pounding" the rock

Considering we Cowboy fans are used to the team having 12 carries for 20 yards and the calls turn into 25 pass play for every run. Defenses knew if they could take the run away early the Cowboys would be a one dimensional team the rest of the game. You need to make defense think about the run even if it's not working. So yes I'd say running the ball 40+ time could mean pounding the rock.

43 rushes and 28 passes, keep it up. They can rush for 3.58 all season long, because Romo will be the league MVP completing 75% off play action

its getting deep in this thread

Brees completed over 70% a couple of years ago when the Saints won the Super Bowl. They had four good running backs and Brees was unstoppable in PA. I think Romo could have the same kind of year. If you want something deep, that would be the deep shit your Steelers are in this year. 3rd place....at best

That is the exact definition of "pounding the rock"

3.5 at 3 plays = 10.5 yards = first down

The exact definition when the term was created. Old school football/

The far majority of that in the 2nd half. They passed more than ran in the first half, and they averaged less than 3 YPC in the first half. This happens with them every once in a while. They'll play a game, win it, and coincidentally they'll have run the ball quite a bit. It usually doesn't mean much. They're a passing team that has to get off to a good start and build a lead if they're going to try and go run heavy. I believe they honestly want to be balanced, but they just don't have enough quality bodies up front that will allow them to consistently run the ball well.

I definitely want this team to be closer to balanced than it was last year. If you pick up the paper the morning after the game and see where a team ran 43 times, I would say there is a 95 percent chance that team won the game. 18 carries for 45 yds the first half though was a little tough. I mean if you look more into the numbers , one will see that Dallas dominated that game last night, yet only won by 6 points. Not to mention Cincy had the ball with a chance at the end. Winning is winning, I dont care how it gets done- I just like our chances throwing to 88 and 19 more than I do trusting this OLine that many call the biggest weakness on the team. With that being said, if you dont establish some sort of running game, your chances arent as good

I think this is more to see what you have in your RB more then this being a game plan. They will run the ball more this year, but I do not see it being more then 38% of their offense. It was 35% last year. Your best players on offense is the receivers and TE. They need to get the ball. The question is, Can you get better production out of the runs you have. They were ranked 30th last year at 3.6 YPC which is what you got last night. It is not the amount of the carries, it is the production that you get.

Redskins against Buffalo had 43 rush attempts for 208 yards = 4.8 ypc...Now, that's what I call "pounding the rock".

All this without RG3 who supposedly made our running game numbers of last season look like an illusion. Wow, just wow.

Absolutely agree with that. And quite honestly, if the Cowboys can establish a good running game this year, it will make a difference. But, can they? Will they? I just don't see Romo giving up his "fantasy value" to the running game.

On the other hand, the Redskins "pounded the rock" against the Cowboys in game 1 for a 4.7 yards per carry. And in game 2, with a one legged RG3 "pounded the rock" again for a SICK 6.5 yards per carry.

The game is won in the trenches boys, and this season will be no different.

All that ''pounding'' and it still went down to the last day, even though Dallas had 5-6 guys off the street on D. That's the only way y'all have a shot this year too. Provided your broke QB doesn't get smashed

I think that ypc had something to do with that Ryan defense. I think Dallas will be much better against the run this yr.

Every time I think the Cowboys are not by a million miles the team on every other fans minds I see a thread at midnight on a board with not much traffic, that gets trolled within minutes and realize we are still always on their minds.

I know, I know...it was a coincidence that you clicked on the board for the first time in your life and just happened to notice the thread...

And the skins fans...anyone else notice a difference in them this year after stumbling out of the cellar for the first time in how long? I never understood why people go to other teams boards and understand even less why they do it for no other reason than to act like a dick...

FLskins fan...not talking about you. Good points. I disagree because we NEED to run the ball more to maximize those "best players". We can't have teams pinning their ears back and coming at Romo like they have the last few years and Romo is a great at Play action. We also can't stop running the ball just because we may struggle a little in some games. If we don't run the ball a lot more than last year we are either losing a lot or being dumb. Good chance one or both happens, but I hope not.
