Im all for running the ball, but I actually thought we did it a little too much .

You can never run too much. Everyone knows that. That is football. It's a running game... There are millions of reasons why it is better to run the ball rather than pass.

43 rushes and 28 passes, keep it up. They can rush for 3.58 all season long, because Romo will be the league MVP completing 75% off play action

The only problem is when the games become real and the defenses start actually trying they will jump the route on romo because they don't fear him. They know he has no hard pump fake and bomb deep.

I definitely want this team to be closer to balanced than it was last year. If you pick up the paper the morning after the game and see where a team ran 43 times, I would say there is a 95 percent chance that team won the game. 18 carries for 45 yds the first half though was a little tough. I mean if you look more into the numbers , one will see that Dallas dominated that game last night, yet only won by 6 points. Not to mention Cincy had the ball with a chance at the end. Winning is winning, I dont care how it gets done- I just like our chances throwing to 88 and 19 more than I do trusting this OLine that many call the biggest weakness on the team. With that being said, if you dont establish some sort of running game, your chances arent as good

Running the ball is THE ONLY WAY TO WIN CONSISTENTLY IN THE NFL. Look at Baltimore, Pit and San Fran....

Then take a look at ARIZONA...

Can you imagine what Smith career avg numbers would have been if when we were winning on those 90s teams they didn't just run him over and over to kill the clock in the 4th quarter......

Emmitt used to purposely take 5 and get down without being touched really.

Why one may say??? because it's more important to waste clock and move chains in the middle of the 4th with a 7 point lead.

THATS HOW GOOD EMMITT WAS>..

BEST FOOTBALL PLAYER EVER.

SECOND BEST WAS MOOSE

Yards after the age of 27
Barry ran for 2 years over 3.5K yards
Emmitt ran for 7 years 8.12K yards
If Barry did not retire in his prime then like I said, this would not even be talked about. Emmitt is in the discussion as the best back every, but you can not over look the extra 5 years he played and the fact that we was on the best team in football from 1992 to 1996.

Emmitt is the best ever and it has nothing to do with yards..

It has to do with his leadership.

Randle is by far the best back on the team right now... While Tanner is your change of pace back.

Randle is the only back on the team that gets a foot after a busted play in the backfield... the other two loss two yards every time...
Randle is shifty.

It works about the same as an outsider demeaning his accomplishments with the "he had (this) or he had (that) and only because he had (this) was he anything special" - Fact is, he earned every yeard he ever got and was the main cog in that offense. "Best Ever" is a matter of opinion and can be debated till you turn blue in the face, however he is the NFL's All Time Leading Rusher, emphasis on 'all-time' - I'm just soo sick and tired of the O-Line and the Troy talk - were they good or great? Sure, but Emmitt is all time. I'll take all time over all day any week of the year.

Plus anyone can ask Jimmy who was sitting it all up. That's how Jimmy could go and make bold claims like "WE WILL WIN THE BALL GAME"....

EMMITT WAS THE REASON.... MOOSE was there aswell.

The fact is he was 27 after those best teams in football and 3.5 ain't 8k.

Matter to me if you want to discredit Emmitt.
Heart of a Lion...but you go ahead a prop Barry up

You're right

And Barry wasn't a power runner like Emmitt was. Emmitt was both power and quick.

Also The Lions ran a completely different offense than the Cowboys. They tailored their game plan to throw throw throw to set up Barry for the long home run....

Cowboys used Emmitt to set up everything else. Emmitt sit the table for everyone else and he still got the most yards ever and TDS ever.

I do not think it is so much the team as it is that Barry decided to retire in his prime. At the age of 30. Emmit played till he was 35 averaged less yards per year then Barry. I think that if he would have stayed for 2 more years that he would have the record, but he did not. I think that is were fans of Barry and non fans of the Cowboys wish he would have done. Play a couple of more years and this debate would not be there, but it is. I have stated my thoughts on the 4 best ever. But I think it would have been interesting to see Barry behind a line that did not allow him to get hit in the back field so often.

I think alot of things too, that doesn't make it any more factual.
Emmitt was always on the field, no matter the situation. Barry Sanders couldn't do that. Was he a great running back? Yes, but not in my discussion of all time. He retired early because he played for the Lions imo. If he had won a SB or ever had a (legit) shot at one in his future he wouldn't of left the game. He served his purpose. Very often, he wouldn't even run where he was supposed to run, he wanted the big play and lived and died for it. It wasn't about the team, Barry was always about Barry. Emmitt almost always hit his hole and made the o-line look better than they were (in many cases) - which is easy to do when you just follow the big guy in front of you. As long as he puts his body on the defender and you have the slightest bit of ellusivness, you (at the very least) increase your odds of a succesful run. There's as much evidence that he (Sanders) had a shot at the record as there is saying he never did. Bo Jackson could of had a shot too. Freak accidents happen every week in the NFL. Nobody was more durable than E dot (see Cowboys/giants 1993 for reference)

That's because Emmitt was patient... Emmitt was so great at giving his line time to set good screens. He also knew how to improvise, change direction, reverse field, hide behind a big line man, cut back... He had it all. He is the best football player ever.

Montana and Moose are probably second.

He is also the most powerful back ever...

Even John Madden said week after week that he is the hardest guy to bring down.

He also had the best stiff arm ever.

You don't win some 60 games out of 70 games with Three Superbowls as running back in the toughest and best division the league has ever seen by accident..

I want some of you Detroitlanites to go back and look at the tapes of when The Dallas Cowboys were going from a 7-9 type team to a 11 and 5 type team and look at some of the drives the team was putting together. Also take a look at a certain number 22 and see how he led like a warrior on the frontline

Best football player ever ? Come on now I love Emmitt but best football player ever ?

That would be very good discussion I would pick Montana or Unitas

Most powerful Back ever again I would pick Taylor or Campbell.

Emmitt had better leverage than both Taylor or Campbell.

I once saw him up in Denver back in 1991 drag 6 defenders 4 yards and fall forward 2 feet beyond the first down marker on a 3rd down during that snowy game up there. It was late in the 3rd quarter.

And he while laying there with the ball facing forward in front of him did the "Michael Irvin"... Took his right hand off the ball and with his elbow still on the ground gave the "frist down single". And then got up with the ball.

I think Michael Irvin then used it after that.

He didn't say 2nd best back. He said 2nd best FOOTBALL PLAYER ever. That clown is loonier than Jodi Arias.

If you read one of my previous post, I said there were 4 backs that you can argue best ever.
Emmitt Smith
Barry Sander
Walter Payton
Jim Brown
I am not a Detroit fan, I am a Redskin fan. When the best of anything is talked about it is all about opinion. Do you use yards (some would say what if they did not play as long), do you use ypc (again if you are use in the 4th qtr to run the clock down that hurts), is it wins, TDs, etc......I have just gave my opinion and I am not saying Emmitt is not the best ever, but there is arguments for others as well.

That is like when you talk Best QB. Is if Farve, Montana, Marino. I mean you have arguments for all and out of 100 people it will be split. Just like for the RB. Ask 100 random fans and you will get these 4 guys in equal amounts. You are Dallas fans and you have the right to believe that Emmitt is the best. In my mind I can see the argument for all 4 so I do not argue for one of them, but more for all of them to be thought of as equals.
