Ok, one example out of 10,000, but let's roll with it. Niekro's FIP in 1977 was 3.74 in 330.1 IP. The Major League FIP average was 4.00. So, in significantly more innings pitched, Niekro's FIP was 7% better than league average. A WAR of 5.9 might seem high, but his IP are much larger than average.Phil Niekro, 1977
Look Dude, Nos is as respected as anyone on the mock board, and after posting here since the get go, I can tell you our core guys know their stuff. You're welcome to state your opinions and get along, but if you're gonna start out by getting in a pissing match with Nos, you can go ahead and take the train right nowLol, OK kid. You've really "let it go." Get back to me when a smaller quantity of inferior players is better than a larger quantity of better players

UmmmmmmmmmmmmmmUsing WAR Kid Nichols is better than Lou Gehrig.
The End
If the equation fails once, it's a flawed equation. Do you know what standard deviations or outliers are?If the equation fails just once, its a flawed equation. WAR is not, and never has been, a perfect stat (despite the love affair saber guys have for it).
Besides, it's not just one example out of 10,000, it a example of many many many examples.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm
No he's not.
Lou Gehrig had a 116.3 WAR. Nichols' was 80.
But then, your shit knows more about baseball than me.

Yeah way to use a WAR stat that values ERA over FIP

And NO ONE ever said WAR is a perfect stat. Far from it. But calling it "useless" is brainless.

Use Fangraphs. They use FIP and have the most accurate calculations of how valuable a player is- taking out defense, eras, and leagues and looking solely at what a pitcher can control directly : strikeouts, walks, hit by pitches, and home runsWhat year are you looking at. In 1977, Niekro had a WAR of 8.9. Unless you've come across another issue I have with WAR - everyone has their own way of figuring it out and it's different depending on where you look.
What incorrect stats and incomplete data did I use? I look solely at Fangraphs' calculation of WARSays the guy who quotes incorrect stats, uses incomplete data and then cries that other don't share an opinion - because opinions must be based in his own facts?

Fangraphs' WAR:Every stat you quote is WAR, and even then you admit that WAR is different depending on who figures the stat out. It cannot be a solid basis of argument if the stat has to be quantified with what source it is taken from, because everyone chooses if their own way of figuring things out, the stat loses meaning.
As for incomplete data - I shouldn't have brought earlier conversations into this one.
So, to an earlier point, how exactly does WAR go beyond eras and decide who is better?
