Yeah I'd say there is. And I'd say you're wrong. Mays is the best center fielder of all time. Highest WAR/JAWS/WAR7 and played in a significantly harder era to hit in than Cobb. I agree all three are close, but considering his great defense and dominance in a neutral, and then eventually pitcher's era, I'd say he is better.

"Opinion" in sport's talk isn't like "french toast is better than pancakes." It's ideas that people formulate based on their knowledge of a particular sport, and they usually are right or wrong.

How is it useless? You don't think a stat that can transcend leagues and eras and tell how much better a player is than the AAAA player of their time has any value? Would you rather use WAA?
