Not sure how well it would work, but maybe the 3 should be opened up only with 5 mins left in the game.......
Maybe just the whole 4th qtr.....
But there should be some sort of time limit......
And home runs should only count in the 9th inning? I don’t like changing the game by the time.

Watching Wemby at 7-3 hanging around the 3 pt line is mindboggling.......

He's averaging 9.5 3s a game......10 shots from there last night....
I heard somewheres the Spurs are trying to get him more muscle before banging with rest of the bigs around the rim,but still.....

Here's the 3 pointers shot by the years;

It looks weird because we're not used to seeing it. He's shooting 35% from 3 this year which is really good for a big. Since it's only his 2nd year, he'll likely get even better.

Also, as @logic pointed out, if your big is at the 3 point line, it opens lanes for guys to drive to the basket. If you have a big who can hit the 3 and is a good ballhandler (Wemby and AD for example), they can beat guys of the dribble to get to the basket.

If there's going to be a change, it's going to have to come from the coaches and players. With the distance guys are hitting 3's from, extending the 3 point line isn't going to do much. In fact, it would space the floor even more and likely create even more offense.

Players need to learn to let success be their guide. If the 3 is falling, keep shooting. If it's not, stop shooting it, take higher percentage shots and try again later.
I’m not sure how much more spacing it would have because you wouldn’t have a guy camped out in both corners pulling defenders to both the outside and baseline.

And I, personally, would like to see more driving and interior passing that jacking up 3s.

Thoughts?

You are correct

Also narrow the lane back to 6ft wide not the 16 it is today (12 in real basketball)

I know he isn't "big" but he NEEDS to be in the PAINT!

Oh I totally agree with you 100%,but that was something I heard on Sportscenter or one of the talkinghead shows....

If you can't handle playing with the big boys with the banging, grinding and pushing, you should not be there in the first place......

Imagine an NFL player wanting a different position cause the guy he has to tackle is too big and strong for him....

Lol.....no,that's not a good analogy.....

Hitting a homeowner is hella harder to do than shooting a 3....
Not too mention, there's 4 to 5 plate appearances a game, compared to the 3s attempted per game.

I don't think the 3 has ruined the game

If you don't like how many 3s teams are shooting now you should blame analytics not the 3. 3s have existed for 35 years before anyone started complaining

The reason people think it's "ruined the game" now is because about a decade ago someone finally realized you only need to shoot 33% on 3s to equate to shooting 50% on 2s

It's not that hard to figure out

And; because guys are much more skilled in regards to shooting now, most players can make 1/3 ( or better ) on 3s

The only way you can change this is to move the 3 point line out far enough that it precludes most guys from consistently making them at that rate

Maybe move it to 27-28 feet

But even then guys will eventually be able to make them at a 1/3 clip from there

It's the evolution of the game. Guys are better shooters now. They just are

The only thing is... You actually have to drive to the lane and most of the time they don't. They just shoot the 3

Eh,I dunno......

I dunno,Wemby is averaging 9.2 3s a game this year,good for 9th in the league.....

Now I only watch Ant Edwards and Wemby play these days, but I don't think there's another center in the league top 50......

All the while Wemby is 8th in the league in boards.....he should be no less than 3rd imo .....
For team wins,I think his rebounding on the offensive side would be more valueable than shooting 3s.......

Also dudes are over 7 foot tall. Rebound the ball and dish back out more important than a 3

You’re wasting your time

The NBA nutthuggin ANALysts on here will never see the truth

The players rule this game and it’s going to the tiolet

The superstars are doing more damage to the league then the 3 and again that’s why college ball get more attention

Yeah I will admit I do not watch a lot of NBA unless it's playoffs as college basketball is where I like to be and see

Unfortunately I think we are too far in to look back. If anything the league may put in a 4 pt shot.

Curry started it. It's obviously not his fault but it's everyone else thinking they can shoot 3's at a high rate at a high %.

Boston made the plan to strategically have shooters all over the court and then spread the court. When they aren't shooting or moving the ball guys like Tatum and Brown will play iso 1-on-1 ball where the defense has to stay disciplined. It's hard to replicate and I don't think it is sustainable for years but they showed you can do it for an entire year. The ball movement is the key and I don't Boston is doing the same keys they were last year.

But lets not act like this hasn't been going on for years. Boston is the problem this year. They are shooting way more 3's than everyone else. If it wasn't for Boston, the 3 year trend is pretty similar.

We have come to the conclusion...

THE THREE POINT LINE ISN'T THE PROBLEM

BOSTON IS THE PROBLEM
