Looks like a few players are off the Covid list. Haven't really seen anything about Couts timeframe to return.

Interesting player card thing on The Athletic today. Basically rates how everyone on the team stacks up league wide. One of the more interesting points to me is the Market Value vs. Actual Salary. It's based some on how they're playing, but also takes into account the previous two years. That's supposed to help balance out a guy performing outside of his norm, either in a good way or a bad way).

I think the primary stat driving this is GSVA (game score value added) which is made up of "goals, primary assists, secondary assists, shots on goal, blocked shots, penalty differential, faceoffs, 5-on-5 corsi differential, 5-on-5 goal differential" (Measuring Single Game Productivity: An Introduction To Game Score)

Top Flyers
Couturier +$4.4M in value over his 4.3M salary
Farabee +$4.7M
Brassard +$2.8

Worst Flyers
Hayes -$5.1M in value under his $7.1M salary
Ristolainen -4.9
Lindblom -2.8

Couple others of interest..
JvR -2.5M
Thompson -2.1 (provides -1.3M in total value)
MacEwan -2.8 (provides -2M in total value)
Provorov -1.9M
Konecny +0.8M
Giroux +0.3M

Most interesting ones to me are MacEwan and Ristolainen showing up so far in the red. Both of been OK to me. In Ristolainen's case it makes sense that he's significantly overpaid to be OK, but I was surprised to see MacEwan providing the least amount of value on the team (12 fwd, 6 d, 2 g). Obviously energy plays don't really show up in the stat line, but it's surprising that his energy plays wouldn't bring a better impact on any of the stats in the equation.

Couturier (8.7M value) and Giroux (8.6M value) provide the highest value on the team. Ellis (8.5M) is technically next, but that's all projection off the last two years and a solid 4 game stint. TK (6.3M) is 4th.

To help show where the Flyers are off..

Canes top 5
Aho provides 12.2M in value
Svechnikov 10.0M
Deangelo 9.7M
Slavin 8.6M
Terravainen 7.9M

Pens top 5
Guenztel 13M
Crosby 11.8M
Letang 11.5M
Rust 10.5M
Rodrigues 9.5M

Tampa top 6 (since they had a 6th over 9M)
Hedman 13.8M
Kucherov 13.5M
Point 12M
Stamkos 11.8M
Vasilevsky 9.9M
Palat 9.4M

The Flyers best players don't even crack the top 5 on a contender. Granted, their numbers would probably go up if they had a better supporting cast, but damn.

McDavid and Draisatl are at 20.3M and 16.3M if you're wondering what it takes for a 2 man team to work.

Been a totally effed up year.

The flyers haven’t had their “full” roster for a single game this year.

This is no where near surprising, I am kind of a little shocked that Hayes is the worst but to be fair he's disappeared since his first season. Can't wait until his contract ends.

Very disappointed in Hayes and his -5.1 value. Risto not surprised at all he is not worth anywhere near his salary no less what we gave up for him.

Agree on McEwen as he has out played his worth over these corsi stats.

Giroux is not a surprise either he doesn't outplay his contract nor hurt his contract as a player.

The terrible part is we own him and that contract until after the 2025-26 season. Ughhhhh!!

I’m hopeful that he’ll rebound some next season. The core surgery stuff he did ruins everyone for 12-18 months. Hopefully he bounces back and plays closer to his salary.

But that doesn’t fix the lack of guys providing > 8.5M in value. Just not going to be able to compete without more talent.

Rask will be in goal tonight..... early opportunity to score, OR complete stone-wall ? Bruins probably look at this game as a scrimmage...

Its incredible how game after game after game we cant just cover Pasternak and let anyone else try to beat us.

We would have to have competent management in order for this to happen.
