that's a fair point. I brought this up for the reasons how we have missed on players like Pedersson, Makar, etc. They all were drafted after our pick. That was just a couple of players to come to mind.

Missing out on Makar is going to be an all time screw up. He may end up in the hall of fame.

Oh don't get me wrong. I am too. I just don't know how you get caught as flat footed as he seems to be here. After last year he should've had his ducks in a row for this.

But the Lappy move to LHV also hurts here too. Because you sure as hell can't promote him as a stop gap. So you either need to keep an assistant on or outright hire someone. The Cancuks figured out the latter though, surely Fletcher should have been able to.

Not really tbh. Maybe Hart. But if this team truly does suck, then it's a mess and it's going to be a LONG time before they're ready to compete again. They have some unpleasant, lengthy contracts to figure out or just play them out. I don't see them rebuilding fast enough to make keeping Couturier around worth it. It'll be Giroux/Jake all over again. Between him, and the guys on sticky contracts, they'll keep the team above the 'truly suck' line and out of the top picks. And 10 years from now we'll be in the same spot we're in now. A "re-tool" that shouldve been an outright rebuild.

Just goes to show you the difficulty in scouting. Hischier and Patrick were the consensus #1 and #2 in that draft.

But every single person in hockey would take Makar and Petterson over them with the benefit of hindsight.
