Oh I’d be shocked too, just saying I think Stanton and co could justify it if it’s for a league minimum guy who will play a lot. Their justification for Ray for Haniger was that Haniger was going to play more even though he was a 5th OF.
We all know the Ray-Haniger deal was for a $50M savings. Not sure what they told themselves. You are probably right though.

I still don’t necessarily agree that it was just for the extra $50 million, I still believe it was just for last year cause it was a sunk cost, if you believe Stanton’s words. I’m sure they loved the idea of getting rid of Ray’s contract but isn’t this is last real year? Maybe it was someone else but thought it was Ray who had the mutual option.

And side note, if Ray was still on the team, IMO they could’ve actually done an offseason that would’ve made them contenders.

No it was 100% about the $50M savings. Ray has two more years. I think I posted that a few months back when you didn't believe me then... :pound:

:pound: :pound:

Okay my old memory got me. Ray owed $50M for this year and next combined vs Haniger owed $15.5 for this year. So a $34.5M savings. My bad. LOL.

Longest wait in cat rental history. Next time I'll pay a little more for an easier service. On the bright side I see 3 in-n-out burger restaurants near me. Never been so ill give it a shot this week, and deal with the 5 pounds ill gain this week when I get back.

Not sure if someone else has posted it on one of the other threads but evidently Hanigers shoulder is messed up

He's untradeable unless he's in a package deal with one of our pitchers which in case Seattle is that far out of the last WC spot.
I don’t think it would’ve taken one of the starting pitchers. IMO it would’ve taken one of the top 10 prospects though and it doesn’t seem like they really want to either trade any of them or aren’t liking the packages offered back. But it’s delusional to think you’d get anything back for Haniger even with a top prospect, just like it was delusional for Jerry to think he’d get a top player back for Castillo

Its ok. I post a lot, so it is easy to gloss over some of it.
Nah, I see what happened now. You and I were talking about Haniger and you posted that in between our posts and I thought it was the same one.

I heard it was tendinitis, but that was from someone standing in line to get a rental car. Also, thanks for the tip on in-n-out burger. Much better than the normal fast food chain and even cheaper down in Az.

If a contending team is a pitcher short of possibly making that WS run they'll take Haniger and DFA him or outright release just to have a Kirby or Gilbert. Woo, Castillo and Hancock yes I do agree a top prospect would have to be attached.

I was more thinking of the proposal I made with either Miami or the A’s. Teams that fit both needs, they needed to add salary and also need prospects. Maybe a contender but I all the scenarios that I heard was mostly Miami for one of their bullpen arms for Haniger and someone like Montes or Arroyo. But who knows, I think it wasn’t impossible to get rid of him but like I said I think Jerry was delusional with his expectations of what he thought he’d get in return for any of the trade proposals he offered out.

How awesome! So glad you liked it. I love that area around 83rd and Bell. Maybe someday I move back there.

Tendinitis is probably right. Counting all that money as to wear down the joints.

I hope Haniger injured to a point where he can't play the rest of the year. That would force owners to play the hand that any competent org would've played this offseason or even the 2nd half of last. An outright release.

He is out of options and there aren't going to be any teams that will use up a roster spot in any trade that contains him as part of the package, especially to the tune of $15 million. He'd need to be released outright, and again, if he's injured, no team is going to claim him off waivers. I doubt they would even if his shoulder is okay. It's a waste of a roster spot even for the most bottom-feediing of bottom-feeding teams, and the price ain't right lol.

He's a good guy and I don't question his motivation, but prosaic reality is what it is.
