The deal is only worth “up to” $4.75 million. This is just a young guy for depth something we dont have. Less than 5 million BUT its not a bottom of the barrel move just to close to bottom of the barrel for a starter lol. He wasn't picked up to be a starter though.

6'5" 339 LB OLineman with relatively solid starting experience at RG in 2021 for Arizona. His draft profile from 2020 claimed he was athletic in pulls and got to the second level well but was susceptible to holding calls. Not getting snaps last year wasn't as big a knock when taking into account that Baltimore had an oline that had all 5 of their starters in the top 6 snap getters on their offense. Definitely not a slam dunk, but definitely a competition signing that may have a decent chance of winning the job. My guess is Schneider or Kubiak scouted him in 2020 and are hoping giving him a shot will bring out the potential they saw back then.

If he wins the starting job then they didnt do enough to bring in better quality. He 'MAY" become a average starter maybe but he isnt that yet. More work needs to be done so dont hold your breath this fixes a spot because it doesn't this is a depth quality player not a starter.

Yeah. This doesn't look great. I wasn't really expecting to drop big cash on a top tier guy like Fries, and 18 million a year is a lot for a guard, but it does appear, for the moment, that JS is going to do what he always does.

18m seems like not a huge deal, thats 5.4m less than the franchise tag.
now we have to hope and pray they take someone in round 1 but im not holding my breath. its probably going to be one, MAYBE two picks in round 3 and later.
which makes signing sam darnold a head scratcher. if we are going to have a terrible OL why didnt they sign fields instead? at least he has legs.

The franchise tag applies across the board for all OL. His contract is a top 5 contract for a guard.

If Schneider does his same song and dance with the interior line I'm going to be pretty pissed.

17.6m and its Not top 5 based on what I'm seeing.
They have the cap space they could have offered more, this just tells us the attitude hasn't change and that we should lower our expectations.
Hopefully this is schneider's swan song

Well this is disappointing news. He just can't bring himself to pay market price for IOL.

I mean I guess you can get Zeitler? But he's 35 and coming off an injury. Eagles just traded for Houston's guard, maybe Bechton is an option?

Schneider kind of fucked himself IMO with some of his comments about OL... and not wanting to pay them/draft high, etc (at least IOL). Russell did the same thing, sorry TEAM 3 with his comments... lot of OL are going to be like, "Dude fuck this guy, I'm not playing for him."

Now I thought Olu did okay last year. Not great but okay. I don't understand why Haynes wasn't given a shot. But we still have a need at left guard and IMO right tackle because I don't think Lucas will be able to keep it up. We did sign one OT yesterday, but it's backup/depth material.

Starting to look like the usual off season when it comes to the IOL and it hard to understand given the results last season where the Seahawks were bottom of the barrel for OL. Does JS hand out some big contract to say Kupp instead of addressing the OL? Want to be positive but dang hard to see the plan here. JS been banging the drum about development on the OL and he has hired a plethora of coaches specifically to address that but need an upgrade on the quality of IOL and now it looks like the draft is where it has to happen but that's not going to be easy as not all IOL are zone blockers coming out of college, in fact seems like the bigger names always seem to be gap blockers.

Good reason to dump zone blocking. unfortunately Schneider is married to it and the only way out is a clean sweep.

Schneider missed his alarm clock today... Guess after he signed Darnold he got drunk, passed out, and is still asleep.

the plan is to draft OL in round 3 and call it good.
18: WR/TE
50: TE/WR (whichever isnt taken in round 1)
52: LB
82: OL
92: QB
A+++++++++++ draft
