So I labored through the Art Rooney interview so you guys wouldn't have to...

Long story short, he's disappointed. He strongly believes their inability to find a QB is their problem, not coaching. Nothing to suggest that Tomlin's seat is even lukewarm on the heat scale. lol

And if I'm placing bets on the offseason's 'big changes'... its' at QB. I'm thinking they sign Fields (if nobody gets in a bidding war) then they overdraft the Alabama kid. Looking like they'll be investing into some "development years" at the helm.
And he talked about how he wants to be a Run-First team still.

"Art Rooney II: I still think that running the ball is a route to success especially when you are playing in the North and outside."

So either the 1st round pick is gonna be wasted on an RB again, or they sign their last R1 RB, Slow Malone to a major C2 contract.

Serious question... since I'm too lazy to look it up.

Have the Steelers ever declined a 5th year option & still signed that player to a contract?

Let me guess he wrote a stern letter to Tomlin telling him to do better, believing that Tomlin would actually listen. :D

Terrell Edmunds they did this with, outside of him I can't think of many others.

Gotta preface this by explaining how spoiled we are!

Anyway. Here's Edelman teabagging Tomlin's defense.

“You knew exactly what they were doing,. And they still do what they did. They still do the same goddamn shit when I was playing Tomlin’s defense. I’m like, ‘We still have linebackers covering the three slot? Every time we play Steelers, I have at least nine catches. You would think that they would change it. But no, they do what they do.”
“They’re well-coached.”
Matt Patricia:
“They don’t make mistakes.” “They don’t lose a lot of games.” “And then we beat them in the playoffs."

Music to my ears.

Just have to sit back & laugh at how bad they look. I doubt many current players want to say it because they don't want the Steelers to change their ways. Makes their job easier.

Not surprised as he was MIA most of the time anyway.

You know you have very little worth if a team that is projected to have over $40m in cap space doesn't want you back. But its a business decision when they made the trade. His cap jumps from $2m to $13.4m. Give up a 7th rd pick for a depth piece to limp through the season while Highsmith struggles to stay healthy. Then cut bait. No way you pay a backup that amount of money.

Between Preston Smith and Mike Williams (who they barely used at all), they may as well have just turned their phones off and slept through those picks in the draft. Just pure waste of potential draft capital for absolutely nothing.

Williams in particular, if they thought he would help their WR core so they could succeed in the post season, they sure as fuck didn't play him like it.

I lean towards pure coaching malpractice with Williams. Seeing his acrobatic plays in very limited snaps, and wondering why the f*ck they aren't using him more than 10 snaps per game on a weekly basis... Just plain stupid

Feels like Ben & Haley all over again... Same issue that drove those 2 apart, and ultimately pushed Haley out of town.

I'm all for allowing the QB to audible. But that's only a bandaid. If the offense is too predictable then audibling shouldn't be viewed as the cure.

I'm of the belief that Smith is a mediocre OC at best. He may have a decent vision for a functional offense, but the predictability was bad. Like Matt Canada levels of bad. And Tomlin has a lot to do with this.

Umm let him walk. Any RB can replace him with this offense and o-line.

Yup, put another RB back there and let them run into a stacked box on 1st down……If Warren does get injured, I’ll guess the running game will non existent unless they sign someone or get lucky in the draft……

Please tell me we arent going after deebo and rodgers
Maybe Rodgers is the villain we need to come in & get Tomlin fired.

On a serious note... If they do sign Rodgers then they are for sure punting on next season.

Could just be their agents driving up their individual markets. Easy to to use Pittsburgh as smoke screen when its no question that they need a QB & WR.
