I dont think fraley has called plays, but Detroit has drafted well at OL and has one of the better ones in the league.
It makes sense when OL is the biggest weakness and keeping geno under 25 passes a game is playing away from his weaknesses.
Throwing 40 times a game with geno is leaving too many opportunities for mistakes.
He never called plays, never coached anything beyond OL.

Would be a great hire as offensive line coach, but completely unqualified as OC.

Another guy mentioned was the Bears interim head coach, Thomas Brown. He was the OC and HC temporarily for the Bears (due to the firings) and OC in Carolina (calling plays) but those were dumpster fire orgs.

He did come from the Sean McVay style and I know Waldron did too and didn't work out with us and was a disaster with the Bears, but it's a person who does have NFL experience and is a playcaller.

I mean frankly you're going to have to take a 'flyer' on someone. I don't recall anyone HATING Grubb but naturally a lot were like, "Hmm, let's see if he can adapt to the NFL." Well the answer to that was no, at least for now. That said, it's not like there's a proven GOOD OC just waiting around for us to call them, lol.

Or do you look at guys like McCown (Vikes) or Janocko (Saints), QB coaches. Those guys are certainly going to understand how to call plays if asked and with McCown he was a QB, with TONS of different playbook experience (hell he was on like 10 teams)... and if the goal is to draft a QB in the next 1-2 years... I'd argue a former QB coach is a damn good thing. I know McCown only has 1 year of coaching experience... but he was in the NFL for YEARS. He's going to have a step up IMO.

Klint Kubiak is another guy they are interviewing. I like him over the other two.

Yah that's a no brainer if the Saints are going to let him walk. Another coach (like Brown) stuck in dumpster fire situations.

Is he a FA?

Nope, he was a 3rd round pick in 2023, so he is on their books until 2026. We'd have to trade for him although he'd be cheap and have 2 years left (25/26). That said, the Lions spent a 3rd and he's been on one of the greatest offenses in the league right now with the leagues most desired OC, so yah... I DOUBT the Lions are giving him up for less than a 2nd or multiple 3rds. He had an ACL tear in his final year in College as well, so they are prob. just seeing what he can do now, but he is 2nd on their depth charge over Bridgewater.... so that says something.

Goff is only 30, so he could have another 8 or so years left, so the Lions wont necessarily move on from him in 2 years, but I can't imagine they'll shop Hooker cheap. He's also older... I think he was 25 when he was drafted... so you'd need to march him out there pretty damn quick to get value.

No he's not, but he's trade able. I'm not advocating for him, just spit balling and when his name came up thought it was an interesting idea, didn't realize he was 27 already, yikes.
FA I'd take a shot. I think we have too many holes to fill to trade for someone else's bench QB.

Kubiak would be great because he's been in the NFL for a while, on multiple teams, of course has his Dad as a mentor who I'm sure would be happy to give advice, and his specialty is QB. So if we are drafting a QB in the next couple years, we have someone with experience that can help in that regard. And Geno could still use some work.

Best option thus far by a lot. Not sure about his views on running an offense or if they match what Macdonald is looking for.

They are both going to be overhyped because they got to the finals. I wouldn't be shocked to see both of them as 2nd round picks.
