Why waste a 2nd round pick on a guy who can't play? Get a legitimate 2nd round player with your pick and bring in baby James as a free agent because there are zero other teams who were going to draft him.

First of all, pick 55 out of 58

Secondly, let's not pretend that Bronny wasn't much more highly ranked prior to his heart episode. As he continues to come back from that, his stock should continue to rise.

You could ask similar questions about why the Lakers would offer a 3 year max to a 40 year old. Treat your stars well and more stars will come.

There is nothing wrong with picking Bronny at 55.

But let’s also not ignore the fact that the only reason he was a highly rated prospect was because of his dad.

He would have been a 3 star if his name was Bronny Smith.

Not crazy to think he could develop into a legit NBA caliber player.

But he isn’t there yet.

I don't agree.

His high school recruiting evaluation was legit.

I mean ... maybe 'a little' inflated. But at least Top 100. Many NBA guys have had a kid as a prospect, and many of them were not rated high. Also a lot of guys who are rated high after high school are more 'all around' players, and that's no good for the NBA.

Bronny can ball. He can hold his own on an NBA court for stretches.

Then again, you could argue any high D1 starter could do that... and I would.

But yea, he's close.

Remember, Jordan's kids didn't sniff the NBA.

Prospect grades have become inflated over the past few years.

Used to be only a small handful of 5 stars and 4 stars ran out well before 100.

Low end top 100 should not be a 4 star IMO.

That isn’t a knock on Bronny.

But you know he isn’t even thinking about the draft after his freshmen season if he is anyone else.

Oh yea, no argument there.

High school rankings are still based a bit on And1/Mixtape type skill/ability and Bronny has that.

The opposite is somebody like Ron Harper's kid.

Bronny is more flash and substance, but ... worse players have seen NBA minutes.

Yeah, not saying he doesn’t have a chance to make it. He does.

Yep.. there's also being on an NBA floor and being a contributing part of an NBA roster.

Plenty of dudes have gotten some token run just because some coach happened to really like them.

To be the latter, he's got work to do.

I think if he wanted to really work towards the latter, he should have stayed in school

Disagree...kinda. lol

His "boosts" in how he's rated have come after he has faced quality competition.

If memory serves, his rating in high school got a boost after the McDonalds All-American game and his NBA rating got a boost after the combine.

He probably got those invites because of his name...but the resultant boost in ratings seems to be legit based on his performance in those situations.

I could see people ripping Bronny if he were some cocky and asshole type. But, he is not.

The kid gets along with his teammates and is very likeable. He has no control over his dad or his agent.

When they say he does not deserve to be drafted, he is stealing a spot from somebody else.....that is ripping him..

At the NBA draft combine he improved his draft stock from 98 to 54. Several draft experts said he was now a serious candidate to be drafted.

Dude that’s planted stuff. And I’m not ripping the kid. The people that are being ripped are the people that made it all happen. No one is ripping the kid.

I’ve read it all, no one is ripping the kid. He’s got his work cut out for him but it’s not his fault. Just stay quiet and let him not get drafted then none of this stuff is being said.
