I don't see how this helps them. They put themselves on pause too.

They can't really get started on their rebuild as long as they have Dame.
They already got started on their rebuild. There’s nothing moving Dame accomplishes for them when they’re only allowed to negotiate with one team who also happens to have the worst total assets in tradeable players and picks among a handful of team’s that would have interest if Dame had a willingness.

Do you think Herro gets better after he leaves the Heat? I don’t. I think it’s more likely he plays for them, is thrust into the role of being the alpha and he’s not that guy and he looks bad being that guy. What’s that asset worth now starting year one of a 4 year extension worth $27 million? If they don’t like Herro the only move is to have him passed off to a third team and get back draft assets for that. They’re not likely to see the asset improve if they already don’t like the asset.

It doesn't matter if they think he'll get better if they aren't keeping him. They can take him, then start looking at packaging him in another deal that helps them helps them get their rebuild started. They can likely get better assets working a deal for him themselves than they can letting the Heat find a 3rd team.

Disagree. Is Dame gonna fuck them by showing up and winning games for them? They’d love that shit and all the extra gate they’re getting for those few November December games they get to sell Dame Time for the last time.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

I’m

If someone else thought Herro was any good a deal would’ve been done with those picks going to port….

That’s also a sign…
1. All teams that don’t need a SG, do not want to overpay a 6th man
2. All below average defensive teams do not want another hole.
3. I think his salary/contract is not bad, especially in a couple years. How many teams have the cap or have guys that can match that salary but also need a 2 that can fit into their starting lineup?
Even if his salary isn’t bad now, lets look at the guys making what he will make, $27M, next year.
SG
Simons - already in Portland
Poole - worse than Herro and less efficient
Barrett $24M - a wing that can defend multiplr positions
SF
Demar - self-explanatory
Cam Johnson - wing that can defend
Wiggins - wing that can defend

Even if his contract looks way better in two years, very few teams want to pay that kind of money to a guy that can’t defend, plain and simple

I disagree. As long as Dame is on the roster, they haven't really started their rebuild. Moving Dame takes his salary off the books and they can package Herro to get something of value in return. That would be starting their rebuild.

What you keep mentioning, but somehow ignoring is the bold. There are no players and picks from a handful of teams that would have interest because Dame doesn't have a willingness. So no point in considering those scenarios.

His lack of defense is overrated. Of course he's going to look like a bad defender when he's guarding Tatum or Brown for example. He isn't anything special but y'all acting like he his Houston Harden on defense. He is nothing special so of course when he is matched up against some of the top guys he won't look good but he competes much harder on defense than he did in the first 2 seasons

I personally think way too much is being read into the fact that a deal wasn’t made right away. Egos are always going to involved and Lillards value isn’t changing just because it’s not happening as fast as people like. Plenty of time in my opinion.

We agree on the facts on the ground. You are lobbying for just get it done. There’s zero benefit in taking shit now when shit will be available 3 weeks from now and 3 months from now.

I’d take Simmons and picks from the nets to get them Herro and move on.

Shorter contract

More upside

Still get the picks you want

Who has he actually looked good against defensively?
He isn't anything special but y'all acting like he his Houston Harden on defense.
The only difference in this comparison is effort. I’m sure he tries hard. He’s still a liability. I don’t know how this is better.

It took two years for him to actually compete on defense and you started this post saying Tyler Herro defense knock is overrated? Yikes.

There's more to defense than 1 on 1 defense. This isnt street ball lol. His rotations for example gotten much better. Excelling at rotations is a big part of defense because every perimeter defender cant be Kawhi Leonard

Got it. So when he’s not playing in a culture built on defense directed and coached by Spo he promises to be an even bigger liability than he is now.

Then why can’t the Heat do that work?

Because it would be Portland putting together their own package. Putting together their own package gives them more options than having the Heat do it.

There's less than zero benefit in dragging it out unnecessarily.

No. There’s about 5-6 other guys. Does Portland have that? Lets be honest. Your boy is on a Lou Williams Jamal Crawford trajectory. We are now in the part of the program that says “man he’s a great offensive player who can really cook. He’s earned the chance to start.” Portland is getting the dude who is going to be exposed and he’ll settle into his real NBA role that made him 6th man of the year.

Nope. There’s less than zero risk in waiting it out. And there is zero benefit in just trying to be done. You sound like my kid during the 2nd inning of her first live baseball game. She just wanted it to be over haha.

Thanks for the help.

It’s even dumber to bring on a Tyler Herro when you already have volume shooting guards who are turnstiles defensively.

Also lets not forget Herro is 23 years old. I'm not even saying Portland should necessarily take him but the narrative around him is very nasty. If he was on the open market this offseason, he was going to get a big boy bag but now he sucks lol

Why do you keep saying people are saying he sucks? I just compared his career trajectory to two guys who had long NBA careers and won league wide awards. Listen, I get it. The Yankees blow and you’re searching for a W but you don’t have to create strawmen to knock down. Nobody said Tyler Herro sucks.
