There’s not much of a debate maxey is better than all 3 of those comps by far
That is immaterial though because Dame’s agent salted the fields and burnt them down calling Morey and others and saying don’t you fuck dare trade for him.

But they were better off getting this done and getting the 18th pick this year
Considering the Villanova kid dropped that far, I would agree with this but only because in the end Portland is taking whatever the Heat want to part with anyway.

Portland is stuck.

But they can at least make Miami work to redirect Herro to a better home
What they’re doing now is putting a pause on Miami’s off season just to fuck with them. It’s 100% petty but I don’t blame them. Somebody wants to r*pe you in the ass you don’t help them do it.

Actually, I’m talking about Portland’s decision to drag their feet instead of taking fifty cents on the dollar for the best asset they’ll have in a long time.

So exactly what does dragging their feet accomplish?

It's not likely that the offer will get better.

Does it make some kind of point?

I mean it pause most of the league but Miami was still able to make minor moves to improve slightly.

Right now, they have abou 3-4 new guys that will be in the rotation

He thought they were going to help him out and commit to winning.

Who were they supposed to trade 3 for?

They probably shouldn’t have done the hart trade

If I'm Portland, I'd rather take Herro, then work my own deal. It would provide more options for them.

And ftr, I'm not saying that it's fair value or even close.

But at this point Dame to the Heat seems inevitable and if the offer gets better, it's not likely to be by much.

Seems like they'd be better off getting it over with and focusing on getting their rebuild started.

What doesn’t it accomplish? There’s no risk in waiting for them. They aren’t missing out on something else because they’ve been told they can only shop in one aisle. I’ve already said I bet some of this is pettiness in trying to get in the way of Miami having the rest of their off season prioritizing this move.
It's not likely that the offer will get better.
Agreed. But there’s a chance that Dame blinks first and another team or teams get involved. Even if there’s a 1% chance of that, they aren’t giving up anything they could have missed out on.
Does it make some kind of point?
1. Pettiness
2. No need to rush in hopes other teams would get involved.

Exactly!! I don't get the Blazers position on this.

Herro is an asset with value which Portland needs.

Take him and if you decide you don't want him because it's not a position of need...you can trade him for another piece that is a position of need.

It's not like anyone is offering anything better.
Yeah but they also have a choice to look over the market and see if they can get a talented player at a position of need. No need to settle just to help Miami. In fact, if they don’t think Herro is enough they can choose to keep waiting. No reason to trade your best player in the last 30 years for a 4th-5th starting guard. If nothing becomes available, this is always an option. I would sit on this as long as they can, no harm

I don't see how this helps them. They put themselves on pause too.

They can't really get started on their rebuild as long as they have Dame.

I disagree. They are going into a rebuild whether they like it or not. Delaying the inevitable does nothing except delay their own rebuild.

And, as I pointed out above, getting Herro doesn't have to mean keeping him.

Make the trade, then find your own deal for him.

Do you think Herro gets better after he leaves the Heat? I don’t. I think it’s more likely he plays for them, is thrust into the role of being the alpha and he’s not that guy and he looks bad being that guy. What’s that asset worth now starting year one of a 4 year extension worth $27 million? If they don’t like Herro the only move is to have him passed off to a third team and get back draft assets for that. They’re not likely to see the asset improve if they already don’t like the asset.
And ftr, I'm not saying that it's fair value or even close.

Agree on this. It’s inevitable. That’s why it’s no skin off of Portland’s teeth to wait it out even if it’s a 1% chance they can get better. The vilar d’asno scenario will still be on the table regardless.
Seems like they'd be better off getting it over with and focusing on getting their rebuild started.
Disagree. Is Dame gonna fuck them by showing up and winning games for them? They’d love that shit and all the extra gate they’re getting for those few November December games they get to sell Dame Time for the last time.
