There really is no comparison for Bird. You are overthinking it.

Kawhi is a two-way wing. He can shoot and create his own shot. He can rebound and defend at a high level. He also facilitates for others. Bird did all those things at a high level. There isn't a player to specifically compare to Bird.

You take load management out of Kawhi's game and he can do everything at a high level. We aren't comparing their personalities or mentality, just the players' overall game. If we didn't factor in Kawhi's unavailability you could say he is the best 2-way wing in the game-hands down.

Kawhi is an elite defender and Bird not close to that level. I would not say as he did he's the worst choice as I can see the similarities but IMO not guys I'd compare.

Bird was a good team defender. He is not lockdown by any stretch. As good as Kawhi can be offensively, his defense is his best asset and what sets him apart.

I think I would go with Duncan. I just think his game translates to any era and would be dominant on both ends of the floor. Magic I think would have a tougher time handling some of the more athletic guys in today's NBA at his size.
