Are you confident that he can be the #1 on a true contender? To me, he needs to be a #2 at best, he's just not that guy. So the question becomes can you bring in a #1 to carry him to the finals, and that simply isn't an easy task in Portland (and why they instead spend big on guys like Grant).

Not so easy to add a #1 to a team with a guy who will be making $60M per on his own supermax contract even if Portland was a destination franchise.
Dame, Butler and Bam will be just fine.

I think they have two they can trade and if they remove protections on another pick they would be able to deal another.

That would do it. The protections on next year's pick could defer to 2025 or 2026 currently (unlikely, but keeps them from trading those picks).

It’s crazy. We have a local radio guy here that grew up with him that I play poker with and they are good friends. He says Bayless is the nicest guy you would ever meet and his on air personality is 100 percent contrived for $$$.

Man.

Well, I just can’t believe that persona actually makes him money.

I have literally never talked to anyone who likes listening to him.

Exactly, making him a #2 or #3 on the Heat. Blaming Portland for not being able to add a #1 isn't comparable to the Heat being able to add a #2 or 3 (and even that is only under pressure from Dame)/

This is what I call the Howard Stern effect. The people who were disgusted by Stern and proclaimed to hate him listened more regularly and for longer than the people who liked him. Media today is all about engagement. The hot take artists get more clicks and views because people want to use social media to call them dopes and morons.

Defending Portland is ridiculous....this is a franchise that gave Grant 160 mill....think about that for a minute.

Click bait basically.

It's why Big Perk wasn't fired in their most recent layoffs.

We don't know if he could be a #1 on a contender because he's never had a real contender level roster around him.

That's what often happens with these small market teams.

They can't just sign max level FA's, so they end up paying 2nd tier guys like they're 1st tier guys just so they can have a mid to lower level playoff team. It's not really their fault. You can't force a FA to sign someplace he doesn't want to go.

Imo, that's why it's important for smaller market teams to take big swings when they have a star level player. They have to know that they're likely only going to have them for 7-8 years, so they need to take advantage of that.

If they're not down, that's because they were already poor. They weren't in the top 100 televised sporting events in ratings in 2022.
When was the last time they were? And are you including the playoffs?

People who think he’s gonna walk away from 200 mil are insane.

He will likely be unhappy.

But, he would play.

I agree with you that he would likely play.

My question is...what will that look like?

I don't see him showing up fat...but does he show up and just try to get his numbers? Does he play his ass off and try to lead the team while the FO continues to try to move him? Does he start missing games for various reasons?

It's going to be interesting to see what he does if he's still there when the season starts.

You'd hope that Dame and the Blazers could sit down and try to work out something where they can both be happy. But unless he's willing to expand his list, it may not be possible. It's not like the Heat are going to bid against themselves.

Although, from Miami's side, Jimmy is about to turn 34. So their window with him likely only has a couple of seasons left.

They may start to get a little antsy as the season goes on.

Yeah, he is. An upgrade over Rivers.

Only a casual fan would say he isn't.
I'd say the casual is the one thinking Nurse is so much better based on what seems to be his name. I prefer Nurse if I had to choose one but they have both underachieved quite a bit and could say each is living off of one season.

could it be like what was said in the Howard Stern movie when talking about why the listeners who like him and hate him listen? Most common answer for both was "I want to hear what he says/does next."

It’s hard to tell what it would look like.

Some people use Kawhi as an example.

Showed up in Toronto, clearly didn’t want to be there.

But, gave it his all and won them a chip.

I don’t see this as applicable because he only had to endure it for a Season.

I actually think it would be closer to the guy that got traded for Kawhi.

Demar did not want to be in San Antonio.

Dude was just…….SAD.

But, he was still a pro.

Dunno if Dame would be that chill if he lands in Utah.

But, Boston or Philly?

Yeah, if they win.

I think if we are talking regular season (and that’s the debate here on Sixers o/u 50.5) then Doc and Nurse are likely interchangeable. In fact, gun to my head, I give a slight edge to Doc. Where I’m thinking the difference lies is in the playoffs (at least I’m hoping). Nurse’s creativity with defensive schemes as well as his ability to tweak and adjust make him suited for playoff competition. In this area, he puts Doc to shame. People told me before he got here that he has blown so many playoff leads because when the other team adjusts to what he’s doing, he just doesn’t have a counter or an ability to adapt on the fly. I saw that show up in the most recent series with the Celtics. The Sixers had a 3-2 lead. Boston decided to go back to the starting lineup that employed both Horford and RWIII and as of July 13th, Doc still hasn’t adjusted to that maneuver from a coach I think most would agree was the weak link for the Celtics this year.
