Bro. He and Jim built a blue bloods at a farm school

In the middle of nowhere

Can’t count how many recruits Calhoun lost because there was “nothing to do”’there
Oh, I agree.

He totally pulled the rug out from under Pat Summit and the Lady Vols in the process.

I thought Baylor would be the new women’s powerhouse.

Nah.

It’s looking like it’s gonna be South Carolina for the most part.

Unfortunately, Dr. Phil.

Dude was a coach, therapist, hypnotist and master manipulator all rolled up into one.

Meshing all those personalities couldn’t have been easy.

I don’t have him better at D’Souza and o’s.

But, his intangibles are impressive.

Also, His rings give him the nod for me.

Red is #1 in the NBA, Wooden is #1 across all sports and leagues.
I am not disagreeing with Phil, in fact I had just assumed he was #1. The reason he gets this has nothing to do with basketball acumen. It is his ability to manage massive egos. Across the board brilliant at that. Bulls and Lakers both fall apart way sooner without Phil Jackson in place.

The system that made him famous is Tex Winters, that was the basketball genius. Phil was sound enough to implement and get the most out of it.

I've watched every Lakers Summer League game. Colin Castleton looks good. Looks like the Lakers Scouting Department has found yet another late round/undrafted guy that's gonna be able to contribute to an NBA roster

I think where things can get convoluted is in generational talent vs. generational player.

A player can have generational talent and not become a generational player.

A player can also become a generational player despite not being considered to have generational talent.

Coming out of high school, Lebron was considered a generational talent. He also became a generational player.

When he came out of Virginia, Ralph Sampson was considered a generational talent. He did not become a generational player.

Coming out of high school, only Jerry West saw Kobe as a generational talent, but he became a generational player.

Wemby is considered a generational talent because we haven't seen a guy who is 7'3" do the things he can do on the floor.

But, as we saw in that 1st game, he has work to do if he wants to go from generational talent to generational player.
Yup I’ll give a football analogy. Marcus Dupree was a multi generational talent, likely the most talented to ever play rb. Due to injuries and other things he never even became a generational player.

I was comjng here to say this

Wemby gets hit by a bus tomorrow he’s still a generational talent and not a generational player

Man, that's a stretch to be one of your opinion stated as fact comments.

Throughout the history of the NBA, when there have been 2 elite prospects in the draft and one of them is 7 feet….

Who has been picked first?

People have the benefit of hindsight when they say they would have taken LeBron.

Sure, there would have been a few who might have taken LeBron. But most would take the 7-5 wing shooter.

Perfectly said.

Not all generational talents live up to it.

I like Wemby’s chances if he can have a healthy career.

Yep. 100% agree.

When it comes to x's and o's, Del Harris was better than Phil...but he couldn't get Shaq and Kobe past the WCF. Phil comes in and the get a title in their 1st season, which actually surprised him. He didn't think they were ready.

He got them on the same page.

I mean, it is fair for someone's view of a generational talent to be he needs to live up to the hype or at least come close.
Yeah, I am gonna concede this point to you.

For me, generational talents are guys that are unique.

Before all the DNP-fats, Zion fit into that category.

Dude was Uber-Barkley or Supreme Larry Johnson.

I think @trojanfan12 said it best…

Zion has generational talent, I suppose.

But, he isn’t a generational player.

Yeah, I’m probably still taking Lebron.

Easy to say now.

And most GMs would have taken Oden over Durant at the time.

But how many still admit that today?

The fact that he knew to let Rodman vanish for a day without consequence, and had Jordan's trust to accept it is a deft touch we are not likely to see again.

Zion had a medical red flag through high school and college. On physical tools he is an easy call as on generational talent. With multiple leg injuries before he even hit the leg the current result is not super shocking.

If hebputs together 4-5 years of good health the view on him will shift completely.

wasn't Milicic considered elite (did go ahead of Bosh, Melo and wade). Not sure if 7 feet but close....and Lebron went first. Because he went ahead of Melo that helps make your point against most players.....not Lebron, IMO.

People just don’t get how impossibly hard that is.

I don’t know of another coach at any level who could do that, and yet still have respect from other players when he holds them accountable for other things.
