Cunningham has some unique talents that the Patriots don't quite know how to use with the offensive weapons they have. Give him some time to get used to the BOB offense and give the coaches some time to figure out a game plan for him and he'll be playing every week. This is where patience is truly a virtue.

So if he is not claimed off waivers the Pats can place him on practice squad. At this point a team can only claim him if the are going to place him on the active roster is that correct?

Yes.

But there is also the matter of the three year contract that he just signed.
Is the contract null and void if he is released? Or does a team automatically acquire that contract? Or are they free to pick him up and whatever they offer to pay him the Pats are on the hook for the rest?

I feel like the contract was in fact an agreement between both parties where Bill said Hey, you're going to be on and off the team, but we are going to pay you enough to make it worth your while to not sign with any other team while transitioning between active and practice squads.

That seems like an approach GMs would take. Again NFL contracts are so convoluted

A player can be activated three times from the PS. Once he hits the third he's on the permanent 53 man roster unlss he's cut. He then gets the remaining money on that year's contract and he's a free agent. He cannot be re-signed and put back on the PS by his original team.

Malik has been activated twice from the PS. He's in limbo now. If BB activates him, he stays o the 53 man roster. Don't expect BB to activate him unless there a horrible series of injuries. Jones, Zappe and Grier are the QBs right now and Bill is moving pieces in preparation for next Tuesday. You have to know that he's already set the roster so that he can make the moves he wants to make if they become available to him.

My gut tells me that He's talking to Dugger about an extension. If he says no, expect the 49ers to to make a play for him. They have $40M in cap space right now and will spend whatever they need to spend. If they don't spend it, they can move it to 2024. Lynch will spend it to get a chance to play in the Super Bowl. He'd give up a 2nd round pick for Duuger and sign him long term.

The Lions want Uche and Bill won't pay the going rate for him since he's hurt.

Jennings might re-sign and not risk not getting what he hopes for in free agency.

Bill is moving all of the parts to make sure all positions are covered if the possible moves become real.

Uche will be cheap to re-sign.
He had one very good year (2022) and is doing nothing this year.
He was a slow starter for 2 years before getting hot last year.

Protected meaning what? Because I am not sure what the means as far as players vs teams?
"Four players can be protected each week, so they can’t be signed by another team off their practice squad. However, any unprotected player may be signed to a 53 man roster at any time."

Reagor was signed to the 53 man roster today after his performance against the Bills.

With the 5-foot-11, 197-pound wideout now on the active roster, the wide receiver position sits at seven deep. Reagor is joining Kendrick Bourne, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Demario Douglas, DeVante Parker, Tyquan Thornton and Kayshon Boutte.

Bill ain't gonna keep 7 WRs on the roster.

IMO......................JuJu and Devante will be next to go and Tyquan won't be far behind.

Trade deadline coming.

Dump JJSS, Thornton, and DeVante Sanu and keep Douglas, Reagor and Boutte on Active Roster.
Lets see what they've got for the rest of the year.

Patriots signed WR Jalen Reagor to the 53-man roster.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Reagor “has impressed behind the scenes in New England, earning praise from Bill Belichick.” Given Belichick’s recent history at drafting/signing wide receivers, it’s hard to know what it takes to impress him, but Reagor played on 42 percent of the Patriots’ snaps in their Week 7 win over the Bills, and managed just one catch for 11 yards on his lone target. Reagor, a former first round draft pick from the 2020 class has a career receiving line of 73-810-4 through 47 career games. Despite this promotion, he’s off the fantasy radar — which should come as no surprise.

So...He's got a 100% catch rate and is averaging 11 yards per???

Not too shabby.
I mean, he's no Julio Jones, but he's getting separation and can catch.

Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne suffered a torn ACL in the team’s Week 8 loss to the Dolphins, ending his season.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo confirmed the worst for Bourne on Monday. The veteran receiver exited in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss after going down after a catch and immediately grabbing his right knee. Bourne, 28, was pacing for a breakout season in his this year with the Patriots, catching 37 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns through eight games. The veteran receiver is in the final year of a three-year, $15 million contract but should have a chance to return in 2024 for the receiver-strapped Patriots. With Bourne now out for the season, rookie Demario Douglas will have some value off the waiver wire this week.
