What did this do salary cap wise?
Nothing. His 2023 salary cap hit is $6,300,000. The extension is through 2026. He picked up the guarantee immediately of $14,000,000 so he gets a $20,000,000 this year and his cap hit will be roughly $11M a year for '24, 25 26.

Cheap money if he stays healthy and plays well as a #2 or #3..

Maybe, just maybe the bump will motivate him to play better.

It's a fair contract for a fair player.

Maybe better play calling combined with more Bourne & JuJu will open him up even more.

And better play from the oline to let Mac get him the ball.

But yeah, motivation never hurts.

Here we go........WWWHHHHEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Multiple sources are saying that Parker's new extension is actually three fold.

1. When asked about DHop coming in for a look-see, Parker completely dismissed it and said "Next Question." He has since expressed that he felt that DHop wasn't needed and thatnthe Patriots had a "great bunch of guys at WR."

2. Bill is fast forwarding to 2023 and basically paying Parker to STFU. WHY???

3. Why?? Because the DHop deal has been agreed to in principle and the final details are still being negotiated.

IMO,,,,,,,If the above is true and accurate, DHop will not officially sign the contract until Friday August 4. He will practice on Monday and Tuesday and play very sparingly on Thursday night against the Texan, if at all. He'll work out fully on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the following week at the mixed practices in Green Bay for the second game on Saturday August 19. He'll go full tilt during the mixed practices with the Titans the following week for the preseason finale on Friday August 25. I would expect DHop to have at least eight targets and get 100+ yards and at least 1 TD against the Titans. ""See what you could have had????""

Wait what? If he does not sign the contract until 8-4 he can do nothing with the team at all. So all the mini camps, and practices, film study, issuance of play book etc are out the door?

Patriots signed WR DeVante Parker to a three-year extension worth up to $33 million.
Just days after The Athletic’s Chad Graff suggested Parker could be a cap casualty if the team signed DeAndre Hopkins, the Patriots opted to extend Parker for three years. The nine-year vet will receive $14 million in guaranteed money, which is a handsome reward for a receiver who hasn’t gone for more than 793 yards over the last three years. Parker is a reliable downfield target who is capable of winning contested catches, but a $33 million extension is far from what anybody expected him to receive heading into this season. The Patriots were set to take on $6.5 million against the cap under Parker’s previous deal. This new deal may lessen Parker’s 2023 cap hit and create space for additional players to sign.:suds:

He will have all of the playbooks and everything else. The guy has run a thousand NFL routes with three different QBs. None of the routes are any different than any he's previously run,, they just have different call names and designations. Patriots might call it a X20upzig The Chiefs call it X20crossLZ. The question always is, Can the X go 20 yards and clear crossing the numbers? If he hasn't broken coverage, the QB has to find an alternate. I would prefer that he spend the two weeks in camp getting some kind of rhythm with Mac. Dhop doesn't like taking injury chances running routes in practice. Another serious knee and he's history.

Just so you all know, the Patriots are 32nd in the NFL as cash spent. This is because the Patriots have not mortgagaed their future with half assed extensions and contracts in the past. What it is allowing now, is for BB to start extending players because the future salary cap will easily absorb these dinky guarantees. It also allows a huge amount of money to be paid as a bonus or guarantees up front.

The best part is that not having a truck load of dead money or guaranteed money already paid will allow for really big contracts next year to be spent on free agents. Fortunately, BB has someone else (GROH) to keep him from wasting it like he did three years ago

Which is exactly the situation They were in when Brady left, because Bill had mortgaged the future to win SB's now.
Bills version of rebuilding, get the cap space and dead money right.

I disagree.

1. I think the Patriots will sign DHop. Remove LB Chris Board and put him on the PS.
2. I think CB Ameer Speed will stick. He'll learn the D and play on ST. OL Antonio Mafi will be on the PS.

Don't be surprised if Trent Brown is traded and Lawrence Guy either traded or cut, BB doesn't like players that feel they have an upper hand and decide to embarrass him. Guy has two years left on his contract at roughly $3.5M a year. His biggest problem is that he's 33 years old. Bill ain't going to want to pay him more money and extend him through 2025. My guess is that he's looking for a guarantee that will give him a $5M check now and three more years at $5M a year. See ya Lawrence, you were "good", not great, Hope you like Houston or Seattle.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports “more than half” the total value of DeVante Parker’s “three-year, $33 million” extension is tied to incentives.
Reiss also reports “there isn’t a high total of guaranteed money.” It’s hardly a surprise with what seemed to be the fakest contract numbers in recent history. On the wrong side of 30, Parker continued to struggle with injury and ineffectiveness during his first season with the Patriots last year. He did provide a viable down-field threat, however. It would appear the Pats are basically covering their bases in case Parker stays healthy and proves worthy of an extension in 2023. We wouldn’t hold our breath.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss confirms the Patriots are still pursuing free agent DeAndre Hopkins despite their recent DeVante Parker extension.
It’s not surprising after the finer points of Parker’s supposed “three-year, $33 million” extension came to light. Essentially, Parker is playing for incentives, with a low guaranteed base. It won’t get in the way of throwing big money at Hopkins. Although Nuk appears content to wait until closer to camp to choose a new home, New England still seems to be one of his most likely destinations.

A p
Agree or NO?

Pretty good "way too early" projection.
Rakwon McMillan is on IR
Chris Board is a camp body at best.
Safety and WR are going to change after camp/preseason.
There will be a 3rd TE

More bodies coming and there will be surprises.
My way too early guess is that some of the rookie draft picks make the team.
Isaiah Bolden at safety?

Would that be a total surprise? He came back for what, $3M last time. He must be coming back for the Vet Min. He sure didn't make a ripple the last time he was here. Good vet to help the young guys get adjusted.
