I get that, probably half those blocks were from Seeler. I get that we're not that great, and we have no killer instinct with a lead, but Torts has to roll the dice sooner or later and put together a new PP unit. I also honestly believe Coots is still hurt or hurting. His time could be up sooner than later, which sucks cause I've always liked him and his heart, but watching him be timid in the corners last night really made me think he's very nervous about contact. Hope I'm wrong. I know right now that there is so much wrong with this team, but it sucks watching some of this stuff even when we win. Also another middle of the pack pick in the draft probably won't help either.
Watched for the first time this season.

They are a scrappy bunch.

Board experts have noted all else

Out of curiosity, NHL Network's top 30 players coming in to the year

1. McDavid (#1 overall)
2. MacKinnon (1)
3. Draisatl (3)
4. Makar (4)
5. Pastrnak (25)
6. M. Tkachuk (6)
7. Matthews (1)
8. Kucherov (58)
9. Crosby (1)
10. Rantanen (10)
11. J. Hughes (1)
12. Fox (66)
13. Robertson (39)
14. Vasilevsky (19)
15. Point (79)
16. Marner (4)
17. Kaprizov (135)
18. Sheshterkin (118)
19. Heiskanen (3)
20. Eichel (2)
21. Sorokin (78)
22. Barkov (2)
23. Hedman (2)
24. Josi (38)
25. McAvoy (14)
26. Petersson (5)
27. Thompson (26)
28. Dahlin (1)
29. Karlsson (15)
30. Ovechkin (1)

So excluding the goalies which never go high (Price was the last top 10 goalie in 2005), 15 out of 27 were drafted top 5. And 8 were after the 1st round. So not as heavily weighted in the top 5 as I expected it to be, but still a pretty significant number of them. Also of note, only 3 out of 30 play for a team other than the one that drafted them, Tkachuk, Eichel, and Fox (who refused to sign with Calgary). So that level of player is not often moved.

Top 10 preseason cup odds
Avs - 3
Canes - 0
Oilers - 2
Leafs - 2
Stars - 2
Devils - 1
Knights - 1
Bruins - 2
Kings - 0
Rangers - 2

(side note: the Lightning feel like they would've been a good bet at 11th best odds. they have 4, even if they're aging)

So, good to have 2+ in the top 30 in the league. And 57% are top 5 picks. The Flyers may have 2 in the top 30, 4-5 years from now with Gauthier (5) and Michkov (7). But are you sold on them to do it enough that you don't want to keep stockpiling? To me, finishing in the mushy middle again would be a pretty bad result. Sure you're building a good mentality and you can build a contender that way, see Carolina. But they haven't won it yet.

We'll see how the season and deadline go. If the season ended today and the Flyers made no moves, they'd pick #14 and #27 (FLA). I'd love to see them have two picks in the top 15. Maybe some of the teams below them that were supposed to be playoff teams right the ship a little (EDM, CAL, MIN, BUF) and the Flyers can get another late 1st rounder at the deadline and package that with the FLA pick for somewhere between 10-15. That could put them in a good position to get 2 dmen with top 4 potential. I'd feel a lot better going forward if it shook out that way.

Im only talking about our pick not Florida's because we dont control what they do.

It all depends on injuries and trades. If we have injuries like last year we finish top 5. If we make trades of everyone with value we finish top 5.

If it all stays the same and we dont have our pick in the top 5 its up to Briere to find us the next Pasternak, Kucherov,Rantanen Point etc.

Can't control FLA, but I feel much better about rooting for them to finish in the 11th pick slot than I do wanting teams to pass the Flyers in the standings!

Briere's a new GM and everything, but I just don't have a ton of faith in the Flyers to find those guys later in the draft. The same scouts are there and they haven't exactly blown the doors off the past 5-10 years.

Very Nice win and now with our 19 points, we have moved into the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. Damn it has been quite a length of time since the Flyers have moved into that space. Just the beginning!!

Couts with a great goal and Tippett with PP gets a great goal as well! The PP still needs work but it is coming along nicely!!

Still a big catch 22 situation, we finish 8th by some miracle, we get bounced in the first round, and we get a a lesser pick in the draft. If we're gonna continue to go balls out then we're going to need to add depth. Not sure where you get that without trading some pieces. Once we get halfway through the season I hope a path becomes more apparent.

Since I'm always the biggest critic of this team, tonight I'm gonna change it up and be a ray of sunshine and praise this team. We were finally skating the puck out of our zone and had their heads up the whole game. Our short handed game is top notch, I've always liked aggression on PK. We looked very good in a close game. I'd love to see Sealer or Koneckny with a C on their chest. Also note to Torts, quit taking Brink out of the line up!

5 in a row half way to 10 in a row. We have had so many 10 game losing streaks why not one on the winning side.

I brought us luck!. i went to the game yesterday and it was an amazing win!!!

TK roof shot was unreal and the crowd was into it.

Got to see Deslauriers in a heavy weight battle up close. It was a good fight by both.

Bobby Brink puts one in on the PP was nice

Poehling was all over the place, moving him up in the line up was a great move by Torts.

Johnny hockey and fantilli were invisible.

I dont care what anyone says Walker is a very solid 2nd pair guy.

This is excellent. 32 teams times 2 is 64 top pair defenseman.

32 more which makes him the top number 4 defenseman in the league.

Our defense as a whole has played really good.
Bear in mind, he's two years out from the ACL injury that cost him that 2021-2022 season.
He said he's back to where he was before the injury.
