No More "Bullpen Failure"
Halicke, Newberg, and Grant. They all think he has at least a decent shot of making the rotation to open the season.which local guys and what are they saying

this is the guy who could barely get thru 3 innings last season and now we're looking him starting for us again. leave him in the minors for at least a half season
seems closer to hope that he does from Newberg there, and that's in the 5th spot.

Yeah, but that is the name he gave for the 5th spot. To me , he doesn't deserve to be mentioned as even a possibility at this point.

I really don’t care if Howard starts in the minors or big league. I wonder if King is an option. Easily could be Alexy as 5th SP. Sure a number of guys will get innings.
I do think Howard has more to prove than Alexy. Not as confident as some over Allard.
Really ready for some of the new pitching blood to emerge later this year or next
Yeah, that is how I saw it too, as him getting the 5th spot in Newberg's estimation. To me he wouldn't deserve the 8th spot if we had one.Maybe Jamey is looking at it hoping that the Rangers get something out of that trade. Spencer somehow performing well enough to make the rotation would at least mean we got something of value back.
Obviously I don't think that's happening and Howard has no business being considered a starter in my opinion. But my interpretation of Newberg is that he's hoping Howard can show enough to warrant the 5th spot, not putting him at the top of the list of candidates.
Agreed, and I would throw in Otto and Latz. Maybe even Arihara.I'd rather run Alexy and Allard out there over Howard. Too much hassle over confidence, arm angles, pressure, etc., with Spencer.
Man when you guys have a whipping boy, you go all in
Alexy and Ott would be my 1 & 2 for the 5th starterAgreed, and I would throw in Otto and Latz. Maybe even Arihara.
Howard is not ready to be a starter. He most likely never will be. If they would put him in the pen he might become an asset.Re Otto and Latz. Maybe even Arihara.
Benny you hate Arihara and Latz is not ready and I thought Otto was working on a 3rd pitch
Re Howard. Yes obvious issues but this is still a rebuild year. Also sure you heard about Crouse last outing. I would not give up on him either
Maybe both can do well.
Re Allard- to me he is like how some feel about Willie. He has had many chances and just not worked out. Hope I am proved wrong
