i really liked Kenny Young last year
both he and Griffiths were much improved upgrades over the guys we had in the Browns game
I think Kenny Young and Baron Browning played great together vs the Cowboys .. I like Young a lot, too ..

It's a tough call because Johnson has been excellent ... Young, Jewell, AJ -- they all have done good things, it;s gonna be hard because I doubt all three come back

AJ came in like gangbusters, but has been pretty much the same guy since day one. I think Jewell wasn't far behind to start and was getting better every game, and is 3 years younger. It's too bad they both went out so early last year.

Young is more athletic then Johnson. Johnson makes less mistakes and is more overall solid. Kenny Young flys to the ball and gets to the ball well but he also misses a lot more tackles then Johnson. I think Baron Browning showed last year he can start if we need him to.

My hunch is that Kenny Young won't be the guy we bring back in free agency. He played well for us when we needed him to come in with the injuries.

But this is exactly why I have kept saying we won't take an ILB early. We have ILB's galore granted 3 of them are UFA's.

I saw someone post the other day on facebook that Anthony Hitchens would be an upgrade over what we have at ILB. Must not watch much football the past 2 seasons I guess. ;)

Even Micah Kiser played well for us last year when he came back from injury when Kenny Young missed the final 3 weeks.

The guy who didn't play well for us was Justin Strnad.

The Browns game we had Strnad, Kiser (who left very early with an injury) Curtis Robinson and Pita what's his face.... We didn't stand much of a chance at ILB in that game. Had hopes for Strnad but that was really the game the coaching staff soured on him.

On Browning I think the Broncos might want to rush him from the edge as well as from ILB - still. That means the Broncos will need another one like him or an extra ILB.

I don't disagree here DC, but as you mentioned, of the 3, none are actually signed

AJ is a guy that I have loved since his first preseason game when he jumped out making some great special teams tackle - he looked like a man among boys ..... But he is 30 years old, and he has his specific strengths and weaknesses .. I'd be happy if he re-upped with the Broncos, but I could understand if he didn't ...

Kenny Young would be the odd man out if we, like OC and I are hoping, we land Dean in the draft ... I don't know what this new staff has in mind, but Dean is intriguing because he's an X Factor - which would allow the staff to be creative and unpredictable ...

I don't think anyone thinks we will resign Jewell, Johnson and Young - one, maybe two of those guys could realistically be playing elsewhere next season ..

I also don;t think it's a bad thing to continue to build on a strength .. Back during their SB run, the Giants drafted JJP when the has Osi and Tuck, and at the time, I remember a ton if Giants fans wondering why they drafted a guy at a position that was already a strength ... And this was a major factor leading to the next SB run for the Giants ...

If we don;t resign all three LBs - and I don;t think we will - I feel that drafting a LB early might be a good idea

Another thing to look at is how Vic has always brought out the best in LBs ... could a guy like AJ have reached his peak, esp at 30 years old ??

Someone else may have posted this earlier today but I haven't had much time to come in here. George Paton is also meeting with Melvin Gordon;s agent to see if they can work out a contract before he hits free agency.

If we re-sign Jewell and Gordon on top of already signing Sutton and Patrick before free agency starts I am loving Paton more and more every day.

Gordon wants to be here. Paton and team want Gordon back... Let's get it done!

I think we are pretty well agreeing here so I won't add too much... Johnson being 30 is why as I said earlier on this topic I would like to sign him to a 2/3 year deal if that is the route we go. Not sure I really expect us to sign both Jewell and Johnson though but it is possible given a few things Johnson has working against him. 30 years and coming off an injury he is unlikely to get a huge 2nd contract but should be happy with a decent 2nd contract on a smaller amount of years then most guys who do well and hit their second contract year. The biggest reason I say we may not be interested in an ILB early is because we do have Baron Browning who looked well last year combined with Jonas Griffith who played very well late in the year and while we won't re-sign all 3 UFA's I will be shocked if we don't sign 1... Possibility of 2 and no way 3. I am all for BPA as I always state so I am not putting ILB out of the picture early on even if all of this happens. Just don't think it will be high on our priority list minus BPA which is very possible.

I don't know if I like that. I think Vonte should get a crack at carrying the load, but I understand the 2 headed monster approach to RBs. I guess it really all depends on how much he will cost. I feel like he will get some nice offers from teams like Miami or Houston or Atlanta. If he wants to be here bad enough to turn them down and take less, then hell, yeah, bring him back.

The Athletic.

The subscription is one dollar a month for six months. That should get you almost to the first snap of the next season.

If I need to loan you six bucks let me know. :drum:

I definitely like a two headed monster. Especially how devalued the position is these days. Fresh legs. Thunder and lightning.

Anyone else glad Rodgers signed a 4 year deal with the Packers? Now we don't have to worry about it.

I'm just glad AR thing is over. I figured we had a 1% chance of landing him.
