I like him as a player and yes, he is a better player than Tucker and a better fit - but I am concerned about his age - He is 34 and the Lakers need to develop some younger talent coming off the bench in my opinion

Develop younger talent for what?

You are all in to win in the LeBron window.

When that window closes, you will be back to square one.

And the “younger talent” on the Laker roster has very little upside.

You cannot package sexton with other guys.

Just picks

Gotcha....

I would think with his deal being so small they could work out a "second trade" if they really wanted to make something happen with him though....one would think anyway...

not sure trading for Mitchell and then giving him what? like 45-50 million a year is the right move- but its good to see that they are being aggressive- especially on a roster that they need to possibly pare down a little bit to get to defined roles/playing time.

With all the injuries last year, I guess complaining about depth isnt the smartest thing in the world though.

Yeah it would be complicated

Like trading levert for a first

Maybe okoro for a first

And then using their own picks plus sexton in sign and trade

It’s a lot of work and moving pieces

what does "all in" look like?

If they traded for Turner and Hield tomorrow- and they even the 4th or 5th most talented team in the West?

Haven't seen anything to indicate they are squabbling over picks. The latest reports are that they will give up both picks for the right deal. They aren't giving them both just to move Westbrook.
Why in the hell would they want Westbrook in camp with Pat Bev there? That's just asking for a problem.
What do you consider the right deal?

Eating Westbrook's 47 mil is worth a 1st.

Getting useable assets back is worth another.

Lakers seem to.disagree.

It would be insane to send Westbrook home instead of doing the Indiana deal, especially since getting Bev cost you zero draft capital.

Remember when you said maybe Ainge would be willing to take less offloading his vets if he got a stockpile for Mitchell?

The opposite should be true here as well.

Since you paid less for your replacement, you can pay more to rid yourself of Russ, while getting pieces that fit.

........unless you are holding out for Kyrie next year.

I think its a mistake to waste another year of Lebron on a maybe for next year.

Getting Bev helps.

Doesn't get you out of the play in at worst, 5th seed at best.

The Lakers are believed to covet Myles Turner from the Pacers, giving the team additional versatility up front with Anthony Davis, Thomas Bryant and Damian Jones. L.A. executive Rob Pelinka used to represent Buddy Hield and was close to acquiring the high-volume shooter last summer. Per multiple external sources, Indiana isn’t eager to part with its veteran players without significant compensation. The Lakers might be willing to give up a first first-rounder in a Westbrook swap, but two may be too much for a deal.

Most of that speculation seems to be based on Lebron's tweet.
It looks like they're trying to leverage the Spurs and Pacers. Of course they'll try to keep one of the picks. Why wouldn't they? As the article suggested, if things seem to start heating up on a Spurs trade, maybe the Pacers lower their asking price. From what has been said, if it's a deal that bumps them from a 9 seed to a 7 seed, they aren't giving up both. If it bumps them into the top 4 or 5 seed, they will. Lebron seems to still want Kyrie. So they may be willing to go into the season and see if the Nets fall apart...or they may be looking for a deal that allows them to go after Kyrie next off season. I think the Hield/Turner deal would put Kyrie out of their price range for next season. I agree that getting Pat Bev for less means that they can spend more to move Westbrook, but it doesn't mean they have to. It gives them a little bit of leverage. Nothing wrong with trying to use that leverage. They just have to make sure they don't overplay their hand.

Dubs, Suns, Clips, Denver would be ahead of them...if healthy.

Dallas is doing some weird shit...imo

Why would they trade for Wood and then promise Mcgee the starting role?

Are they playing them together?

Can Dinwiddie replace Brunson, will Hardaway Jr be efficient?

How about Memphis?

Yes, they played extraordinarily well with out Ja.

Doesn't mean they can duplicate it with Jackson being out.

They aren't surprising anyone this year. We know they are good.

Minny is kinda perplexing to me.

I can see them being a good regular season team.

But, now they have 2 centers who will get torched on the perimeter in the playoffs.

Portland and Pelicans have to reintegrate injured stars to a roster thats almost completely different from the last time they played.

Utah and the Spurs are going into the toilet.

Sacto got better.

Still at least a piece away from solidifying themselves as a borderline play off team.

So, if we assume health for everyone, I think the Lakers would land after Dubs, Suns, Clips, Nugz.....maybe Memphis.

Everyone else is fair game.

No, I get it.

I just think its better to have a full camp together, instead of trying to integrate guys on the fly.

Kyrie was worth waiting the summer for.

But, waiting a whole Season with a 37 year old Bron is very risky.

Kyrie is a fickle beast.

Pat Bev helps.

But, you guys might still be the brick squad without another shooter.

Perk agrees with me. Russ should not be traded as Beverly will bring out the best out of Russ

I think the Lakers will likely end up doing the Hield/Turner deal. If they don't, then it likely means that think they have a great shot at Kyrie next off season. One thing folks seem to forget is adding Pat Bev to a healthy Lebron and AD makes them a good defensive team. They rode a top 4 defense and average at best shooting, with a healthy Lebron and AD to a title and were favored to get back to the finals when AD got hurt. The problem, of course, would be keeping them healthy.

Yah I saw this. That is pretty cool.

Apparently the Cavs are one of the teams in on Mitchell.

They def. have the type of assets to pull it off if they want---- not sure if its the precisely right move- but we shall see. Sexton, Okoro, Agbaji, a couple firsts? I dont know....dont know if that would even be enough- plus not sure if he is a great fit with Garland.......if he was a great fit id say sell the farm and just do it....a Mitchell/Garland/Allen/Mobley core is pretty interesting though I gotta say.
Does your proposed trade add up to Mitchell's salary? And I think Ainge wants more picks than that.

The only way sending him home makes sense is if you're tanking but still think there's trade value at the deadline. Open cap for FA may not be as valuable as a Russ trade chip, given the lackluster upcoming FA class.

Does playing Russ improve or worsen the tank process though? As far as giving back money, I think he might be willing to give some back just to get on the court elsewhere. Sitting all year is not going to help his cause for his next contract.

Interesting dilemma....
Starting to think they could go into the season with RW and if he doesn't improve and the Pacers want to tank and lose more.....they revisit the Hield/Turner trade 20 games into the season and John Wall him. The Pacers tell him to stay home or buy him out immediately.

No, I absolutely believe you are currently better defensively.

I thought that BEFORE you got Beverley.

So, his addition makes it more so.

The problem is still the shooting.

Bev shoots .41 % from the field.

Not great.

He shoots .38 from 3.

That's good. But, he only takes like 4 a game.

As for Kyrie, I don't know.

Dude flips more than a light switch.

He said he was staying in Boston, he didn't.

He said he wanted to be a Laker. But, only narrowed it down to them when no other team was interested.

He's now saying he wants to be a Net, with or without Durant.

I wouldn't be surprised if he played well and signed a contract extension during the Season with the Nets.

I wouldn't be surprised if he got suspended from the team during the first practice for conduct detrimental to the team.

Mercurial, elitist, weirdo headcase.

There is no way that the Lakers SHOULD bring Westbrook to camp after all this.

He's a hothead.

Bev is a troll.

Toxic does not begin to describe combining those two personalities.

Uh....

G-Beverley (for say 25-28mpg)
G-Hield
F-James
F-AD
C-Turner

That's a pretty good starting 5. Especially if they stay healthy.
