"When the NBA confirmed its salary cap data for the 2022/23 season on June 30, the league also updated its cap projection for the '23/24 campaign, estimating a $133MM cap. As such, we're basing our figures on that $133MM projection."

I like him as a player and yes, he is a better player than Tucker and a better fit - but I am concerned about his age - He is 34 and the Lakers need to develop some younger talent coming off the bench in my opinion
You got others to be more concerned about age wise I assure you

The bigger picture here, however is that the Lakers now will have 34 million under the salary cap next year to sign a free agent
Not if they trade for Buddiy.

Also, I think your cap number is wrong.

Per USA Today....

Let’s assume Jones opts out. Add up the money owed to James, Davis, and Christie and you get a number less than $89 million. Although the salary cap for this season is set at $123.6 million, it is expected to jump to $133 million in 2023.

That leaves $44.1 million in cap space for Los Angeles, and that number matters! Suddenly, the Lakers have enough cap space to sign a free agent to a max contract so long as he has less than ten years of experience.

Now that they have Beverley as their projected point guard, perhaps the Lakers decide to trade Westbrook and draft picks to the Pacers for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield.

Hield would take $19.3 million from their cap space and the Lakers would also likely want to extend Turner for a multi-year deal if they are trading for his services.

Depends on how Turner played in his season as a Laker.....he plays well.....sure extend him.

If not or just average, let him walk.

The Lakers would be at 111 with Hield plus the holdovers.....if the cap goes up a few million from the projection (think it's happened before) to 138-140 they would have some money to play around with.

Doesn't work that way.

LeBron and Davis' contracts are based on getting a percentage of the salary cap, not on a fixed number.

This is what happens to James' deal when the cap increases next year.

LeBron’s contract could get him $111 million
Rich Paul, James’s agent, confirmed the four-time NBA champion’s new contract to ESPN. One benefit The King could get is that if the salary cap goes up for the 2023-24 season, he would get a total of $111 million.

@dj

You will have even less based on the incentives Buddy's contract.

Some of them are gloriously, hilariously unatainable, like everything related to his defensive rating.

But, FT shooting, Playoffs....very possible.

"Incentive #1:

Play at least 70 games AND shoot 85% from the free-throw line

Bonus:
$500,000

Incentive #2:

Average fewer than 2 turnovers per game

Bonus: $500,000

Incentive #3:

Lead the league in made 3-pointers

Bonus: $500,000

Incentive #4:

Post a defensive rating below 110.5

Bonus: $500,000

Be named All-Star: $500,000Kings make playoffs: $500,000Kings make second-round: $250,000Kings make WCF: $500,000Kings make NBA Finals: $1,000,000"

Wow

Do you believe this?

Beverley’s arrival makes it more likely that Westbrook will be off the active roster by the start of training camp, either through a trade or the team sending him home a la the Rockets with John Wall last season, according to a source close to the situation.

send him home??
They did it to Deng, remember?

If the Lakers are still squabbling over giving up those picks in a trade, that's ridiculous.

I'm actually starting to feel bad for Westbrook...if this is true.

Not only do you trade for my arch nemesis to replace me.

But, you just send me home with pay?

Blaming him for everything last year which is what a move like this would indicate is wild. This is why I'm not mad when players demand trades with several years left because you have teams that just send players home and waste a year or 2 of their career

What free agents are available that would be better than Oubre?

You're forgetting we would also be getting the guy we wanted last summer in Hield....he's the designated gunner if we acquired him
I'd rather have Turner. There's basically no chance to keep Bryant (this year's version of Monk).

...only if they don't take on any salary in the Russ trade that isn't expiring,

the question is how many guys you think are gonna be available that are better than Turner?
