They spent several years building the the team. Stafford was the final piece. Does not mean that they "won" the trade. It made sense for them to sacrifice their future to make one last push.

Nah. Lots of other reasons though. We dont have to pay him 40 mil a year when we are not ready to challenge for a SB. That is the new method of getting there. Build your entire team up in the trenches and then go spend money on a QB and play some cap games for a year or 2.

Of course the downside is several years after that it will all down hill.

Stafford gave his all to the Lion's organization and wanted out. Holmes obliged by trading him to where he wanted to go and deservedly so.

Now, if you were the GM, you'd tell Stafford to fuck himself and you would've spent weeks attempting to reach deeply into your Miss Cleo aura and figure out which team would have the worst possible record in order to receive the ultimate compensation for him.
