Probably pays for our entire draft this year.

Ehh. For every draft pick that gets added 800k and slightly more comes off per [;ayer. 11.4M projected in current 8 picks, so about a net cost of 5M.

Still need 8M for IR and 2.5M for Practice Squad.

Interesting that we may not have to see him anymore in the NFC North

All the Chargers are having to give up to get Mack is a second- and sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. That’s a steal in our eyes.

I believe Holmes let's TW lll walk and in return signs Marcus Williams. I doubt Holmes would be willing to sign both Walker and Williams. Williams is definitely better than Walker and Glenn's use of Safeties and how important they are to this defense will probably make Williams the right choice of TW lll.

Maybe, Holmes signs a vet to provide depth for the other safety position and hopefully drafts one who is not only good in the role playing closer to the box but also has the coverage skills to play anywhere and not be a liability.

Maybe Marlowe or someone similar to him gets signed.

This signing of Marcus Williams will become the one Big Ticket signing.

On Saturday, another top-shelf target got poured down the drain when the Cowboys traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are absorbing the final three years of Cooper’s 5-year, $100 million contract, the same basic market value that Williams will draw from the Chargers.

Christian Kirk isn't worth that amount

A lower-level potential target, Arizona’s Christian Kirk, is being talked about as a $15 million-per-year candidate by reputable sources. Kirk had 77 receptions for 982 yards in 2021, both career-highs. That’s a very high price tag for a player who hasn’t ever been a top target.

Only counts 2 mil against the cap too. Nicely done.

Wagner must really like SoFi
Lions were a distant 3rd choice for destinations

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports free agent Bobby Wagner wants to sign with the Rams or Chargers.

Ridiculous

This would put Moore right around the anticipated amount for traditional special teams standouts. For example, Miles Killebrew just signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Steelers, right in the same ballpark.

Interesting possibility as depth for the entire secondary.
Double dip from the Saints?
Marcus Williams and PJ Williams. The latter might be a relatively cheap option as a veteran to help mentor this young group.

Here’s what current Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn had to say about P.J. Williams in 2020, when serving as his defensive backs coach:

That’s the thing I was talking about with the veterans we have. They just know football, and you just give them some parameters to play in and some ideas on how we have to do certain things, and they’ll go out there and perform for you. And that’s what P.J. did for us. So P.J., in baseball they call them five-tool players. I don’t know if I’m saying it the right way they use it, but P.J. can play safety for us – and that’s either one, free or strong. He can play the nickel, he can play the dime, he can play corner for us. So, he’s a very valuable player for our defense. You hear coaches talk about now position-less players, and I see him being one of those guys.
The Lions could use help at safety. They could use help at nickel. They could use help at outside cornerback. As we saw last year, the Lions are not afraid of moving players in the secondary around, and Glenn clearly values that versatility in his players.

We had to assume this was going to happen even though some of us fans are not celebrating this re-signing

On the bright side it may mean we are not drafting a QB early.
