Power play nowhere to go but up...Last season was dreadful

I would love if our 2nd line had a great start to the season.
Ah Crap, Hart gives-up a goal in the the Third Period.
Offensive juggernaut !!!!!

First place baby !

Very pleasant surprise tonight. Konecny and Frost are two of the guys who really need to step up offensively for this team to have success and so far, so good. I'm looking at the stat line for Provorov. 2 assists, 3 shots, +4 with 10 blocked shots and 5 hits. Dude was an absolute stud for us!! We'd definitely like to get more shots on goal and win more faceoffs, but without Couturier and Atkinson, those numbers are going to be lower. Great timing on the power play goal early in the 3rd to pretty much secure the victory. Overall, it was a pretty strong team game and effort. It always feels good to win the home opener or beat a division rival, let alone both.

Hart was good, but as well as we played around him, I don't think he had to be great. He'd still probably like to have back the two that he gave up, but he leaves this one with impressive looking numbers regardless. Nice contributions by Hayes, Allison, DeAngelo, Laczynski and JvR too.

Ultimately it's a shocker to net five goals (with this lack of skill/talent) and also know that we hit the post 2-3 times as well, I believe. It's a very encouraging start, but we have to keep scoring 3+ to really be a truly competitive team long term. We're not going to get a couple goals each from Konecny and Frost every night, obviously. Others will have to step up and chip in some goals. That said, I hope Konecny scores 40. Then his contract really starts to look more favorable.

The question is, can we put forth this effort night in and night out!? That has yet to be seen. I imagine there will still be a lot of tough times to come yet, but we shall see.

Well let's see: New Jersey beats us 25-37 on shots-on-goal; Face-offs were 27-42 New Jersey; The Flyers take the Hits category, 28-18; Carter Hart with 35 saves and 2 goals given-up; And we kick their asses 5-2. I'll take it for the opener. It is especially satisfying watching us kick the Devil' s asses!!

Vancouver comes to town next.

Sanheim's new contract. Good or Bad for the team?
Probably bad in the long run, this is another case of handing out a huge contract to a player who is just above mediocre. If you're going to tell me there weren't better free agents you could have wrapped up for years at 50 million I'm gonna say no! We're going to end up in the same situation as always. Just my opinion m

IMO if he continues to play like he did last year it will be worth it. He will be 34th highest paid defenseman so its not like we broke the bank.

Looked at on it's own it seems fine. Market price-ish.

Problem is they have 23M tied up in a top 4 of Provorov, Ristolainen, Deangelo, and Sanheim. And they're what, middle of the pack maybe? That's a lot money tied up in those guys to be middle of the pack. And 3 of the 4 are signed through 2025.

I agree with this 100%. Heres my thought on why they signed him now. They know we wont be good for 2/3 more years. DeAngelos 5 million will be off the books and someone like York steps into that spot. Now we have only 3 defenseman making money and they other three spots are Zamula York and Attard. We just need to get Ellis to retire or get someone to trade for him thats the real problem.

Hodgson waived today. Happy to see that honestly. Most of the stuff I've read said Lappy was his biggest supporter, but that Fletcher also liked him. Might as well be the kiss of death to me. Torts saw otherwise, played him like 5 minutes last night and sent him down. Glad Lappy's word only went so far, I think he's a terrible coach.

I agree with that, but even with those guys listed I don't see the Flyers being more than middle of the pack on defense. It's another case of Fletcher not having a plan. Loads up the cap with guys that are 'fine' and then says it's too hard to sign guys that actually move the needle because he doesn't have any cap space.

Signing good players is easy, if you're not an idiot.

If that's the case we've been idiots for over 10 years now.
