No team has ever won a cup with a player making more than 10 million per year on their team. They just blew their chance to repeat.MacKinnon extension - 8 x $12.6MM
His number will be in the rafters !!!!!!Its good that he retired but not good that he's retiring as a Flyer.
In the salary cap era …..No team has ever won a cup with a player making more than 10 million per year on their team. They just blew their chance to repeat.
Did they hold any skating seminars for these lost prospects? Good grief, what a shit-show!Apparently this stemmed from one of our rookies getting his ass beat in the rookie game this weekend.
Here is what I found. Is it possible to buy out Ellis and if so what are the consequences of the buy out?

Thanks! He needs to be closely evaluated as it may be time to pull the trigger either this season or next if he doesn't play. That savings plus finally getting rid of the 7 million JVR makes (ughhhh) may give us something to work with next season. Here is what I found.
The last column is the cap hit and the one before it is the cap savings for that year. 4 extra years of $2 mill dead money.

Lindblom inspired us to the 5th worst record in the league so no big loss there.Down Goes Brown: The Bizarro-meter’s Eastern Conference offseason rankings
On Tuesday, we dusted off the offseason bizarro-meter and gave it a good workout going through the Western Conference. We looked at some big swings in Calgary, an international drama involving Minnesota, a deposed captain in Winnipeg, and lots more. It got weird, which is kind of the entire point.theathletic.com
The offseason so far: They hired John Tortorella, drafted a dude named Cutter, and signed a few veterans. They also bought out Oskar Lindblom, who is an inspirational hero, and traded for Tony DeAngelo, who is not.
But their strangest story was: Admitting that they didn’t even try to land hometown boy Johnny Gaudreau because it was too hard. You’re not supposed to say that stuff out loud, guys!
Cmon D we got about 5 games out of him how many more could we have expected?Fletcher said today that Ellis will miss the whole year and that Coots injury at this point is not considered 'career ending'.
Pretty sure this will happen naturally this year.
At this point I expected it with Ellis. BUT the fact that career ending was brought up in the same sentence as the Couturier injury, is surprising to say the least. WTF is this medical staff doing with people on this team?Cmon D we got about 5 games out of him how many more could we have expected?
I realize our medical staff is very sub par but IMO we traded for damaged goods and that's why we got him so cheap. At this point I expected it with Ellis. Great trade all around. Looks like Patrick is out for the year also. Myers played 27 games for Nashville and is now on the Lightning. Our problem is the $6.25 cap hit for the next 5 years. Yes, he can go on LTIR, but there is some great benefit (no idea what it is) by waiting until the season starts. The only hope is that some team under the cap floor trades for the cap hit. See the Chris Pronger trade. We would have to throw in another high pick. Looks like we could be out of cap hell in 2026!I realize our medical staff is very sub par but IMO we traded for damaged goods and that's why we got him so cheap.
